No one really reads this so I write it more as way to vent than anything. I was browsing the site and read something about well wishes for breast surgery. Is this breast implants? It did not say. It did, however, have a Christmas wish for there to be free speech in the world. Decent wish, although, I know if everyone in the world was fighting for everyone else to hear them I'd probably wish they'd turn into mutes.
A good Modest Mouse quote comes to mind "No one really knows the one's they love. If you knew of everything they thought I bet you'd wish that they'd just shut up."
Anyway, going back to what I was writing this for. I know that my views are very conservative compared to most people on this site. The problem is I am such a mix of conservative AND liberal. Either way, people here don't generally like what I have to say on ethical, social, and political ideas but I think that's good. It's keeps both sides thinking and maybe considering something new.
It did irk me a little that the primary part of that post I read, if it was indeed about breast implants, had nothing to do with the more respectable wish of free speech. If you're spending money on breast implants how worried are you, truly, about the world and the condition of it's people? Couldn't those thousands of dollars have been spent on charity or even savings so that if anything catastrophic happened to this individual, they could help themselves instead of havnig to turn to the government for money or falling into debt. Even a vacation would have been a better spend because at least you might be learning something about a culture or geographic wonder. I don't talk too much about what 'condition' the world is in because I don't have the time to really lend a hand and not at all the money and honestly I am selfish with my free time which also keeps me from being more involved. My problem is that so many people my age just talk and it's empty talk. If it takes money and too much time from them, they aren't interested.
Many people get their opinions from what music they like or artist they enjoy instead of actually READING and researching something on their own and THEN deciding. Even all the 'subculture' people on this site that think they are so 'different' because of their opnions and looks. Well, opinions might make you different but when I look at you and see a thousand tattoos, piercing, hair color, breast implants, shit loads of make-up, lots of jewelry and then you tell me how looks shouldn't matter, people are all equal, politicians are so materialistic ... I just think ... look at you. There was a time when these things were more taboo but now all these thoughts and these looks are becoming mainstream on that pop-culture level and a lot of people look like poster children for Hot Topic or just the general mass consumerism that is shoved down our throats. It doesn't make me or them bad people if we at least recognize it but to deny what we are doing THAT makes it a problem.
I am as much a part of this as others so I'm not trying to point the finger at anyone and this isn't directed at anyone. I just don't think getting naked is pushing the women's movement anymore, though it may have proved indepence at one time. Depending on what the person looking at the pictures is thinking, it may hinder it. And I don't think because you put ink in your skin and jewelry in your face that you are a 'progressive thinkier but nor does it make you a 'degenerate'. I wish I could see these people everyday actions because then I could say "This person is strong, respectable, intelligent, or beatiful, and not just another misguided soul, taking off their clothes and then telling me about all their borrowed social/political ideas.

I have always been into tattoos, even in the 80's before they were popular. I remember when a tattoo shop was in a bad part of town, not in the local strip mall. I also remember the beginning of this movement all the way back in the 80's, the beginning of the punk movement. I always said that those kids were breaking away from 1 conformist society to form their own conformist society.
As far as freedom of speech, there is a great line from The American President, with Michael Douglas. He says "Freedom of speech is not fighting for what you want to say, but fighting for the person to say what you don't want to hear."
