Getting real sick of stupid club owners/bookers.
There's a sort of legendary, old-school prog metal band playing at a local club. My band would be a GREAT match for that bill. Last time we played the club, we had their biggest crowd in over 10 YEARS. Sold a ton of merch, made the club good money. HUGE win for everyone. Everyone who's opinion I trust said we're a no-brainer for the bill.
And yet, the club booker says that she had to pay the headliner so much money, she needs bands to 'sell tickets,' AKA PAY-TO-PLAY. Which means that she'll get 2 shitty bands who'll sell taround 30 ickets to their parents and friends.
My sell point is that MY BAND would draw at least half the people who showed up at our last gig there (and this is a conservative estimate), which would equal around $2200 for the club. The two shitty pay-to-play bands would net them $500 at the most, and they would be known as yet another club that books shitty bands.
Club owners and bookers are painting themselves into a corner with pay-to-play. Only shitty bands pay-to-play. They're making less money because of it, and then they're blaming their problems on everyone else.
