To answer some questions from yesterday...there's nothing wrong with being gay but my parents would have a problem IF I was gay (I'm not gay...let me reiterate that point).
My parents would like me to (someday) have a family (married to a lady) and procreate with her...someday. That's why my mom was all of a sudden panicing...I've been hit on more than one occasion by a sales assistant when I was shopping (of both genders...the assistant not the shopping)...I guess she's just worried about the family name...but not to worry...I'm only interested in knowledge. Oh...and computers...can't forget computers.
Moving onwards to events that matter: I've been chatting with several interesting people lately and I have gotten the time to read about things that I talk with them about. I finally got around to reading some Hemingway...I also obtained knowledge from other people about other things that I'm hesitant to share (don't worry...it has nothing to do with computers or electronics).
Human interactions have facinated me since I read some Assimov books on psychohistory (basically the foundation series) and I try to gain knowledge of a person so I can anticipate their moves. If I can anticipate then I can possibly avoid situations that would distress them (takes time to do this).
It's kind of like playing a game of soccer or Ultimate. If you just watch the team then you'll notice that even though the movements look complex each individual unit performs a simple motion and they tend to do the same things repeatedly. We are comfortable in tried and tested practices so we'll only run at certains speeds...if a ball is in a certain position then somebody will run in a particular direction and will most likely not try an alternate route.
This principle can apply to almost every aspect. Chess computers that play grandmasters analyze their movements and know what to anticipate over other moves....it's a simple procedure. On the other hand, a different player could come by and beat the computer because the player will move differently and the computer doesn't know what to anticipate. You may say at this time that humans can't do that many calculations but we're not programmed to naturally play chess...we're programmed naturally to interact with each other. Us interacting with each other and noticing subtle cues that are different of each person but most will understand gives us the ability to anticipate movements where we know what the choices are.
Another example is any sort of sporting event where interaction is immediate. It happens quite often that high ranked teams are beaten by lower ranked individuals. This is because the high calibre teams tend to play in the same fashion. Lower ranked teams on the other hand can have movements that confuse the players and thus create an oppurtunity. Upper echelon teams will not do the same thing because their moves are expected...there isn't anything that's all that new...it becomes a game of centimeters.
The "idea" (if it deserves that) has come from a few simple conversations...haven't had to do some serious thinking in a while...but running gives you the oppurtunity.
There was a thunderstorm here an hour ago so I went running. The temperature is around freezing and there was some intense wind so it wasn't a good idea to do a 2k x 100m run. A 2kx100 is supposed to increase your speed and endurance over short distances. This type of run has to be done on a track (there's one at the local high school just down the street) because you have to check your time every 100 m. The basic idea is that you must run each 100 faster than the last 100; if you don't run faster than the previous 100 then you have to run a penalty 100 after the 2k. So, you start out really slow, kind of like a jog and then slowly increase your speed. The first time out you're sprinting by the end and usually don't have to do any penalty laps. Of course, if you start out too fast then you'll end up running 3.5 k or thereabouts. Over time though you'll start out at a medium pace and the run in levels where speed stays constant for certain 100 m sections and barely increases. It teaches pacing so you can sprint the last 0.5 k or so with next to no penalty laps and significantly increased times.
I only went with the 2k today because it was insanely cold out for a tshirt...but I may end up doing a 15kx1k on the weekend (penalty is 1k). If you're looking to excersise your heart and build it up then doing 2k/100m or 2k/500m is the best way to do it as it allows you pace yourself and gives a good cardio workout (most people find themselves out of breath rather than their muscles hurting).
Enough of that stuff...a bit about the "busy" day I have ahead. Meeting...meeting...programming...checking up on funkbunny at night as he's heading out to DC (hope it's all safe)...read...read...read...itch...read...eat some salt and vinegar chips (which I won't be able to eat soon thanks to a strict carb and protein diet coming soon) and job hunting for vancity.
Currently listening to a DJ Tiesto album that's incredibly good...like album of the century good.
