So recently I have started to get back to my roots. By roots I mean doing art. My dad has been an artist for a really long time. Some of his artwork is part of rock and roll history as he lived with the grateful dead back in the 60's on the corner of Haight/Ashbury. He had the opportunity to hang out with many of the big bands/artists of the day and that gave him the opportunity to do a lot of posters for the many concerts in the San Fran area. After he moved back to Minnesota, he and some buddies owned the premier rock and roll club in Minneapolis, the Labour Temple. He ended up doing most of the posters for the bands that rolled through town including The Grateful Dead, The Who, Jefferson Airplane etc. Well he continued on after that to go to art school and then later worked in advertising. His real passion is wildlife art and he does some absolutely amazing and lifelike work that blows my mind everytime I see it, he is my hero.
So for the longest time I didn't do any art even though throughout my years in elementary school, middle school and highschool teachers had always praised me for the work that I did(sometimes I wasn't sure if it was that I was doing good work or if it was because they knew my dads work). But in the past couple years I have had some life changing events and have realized how much I enjoy doing art. One of the things that I am really passionate about is Designer Vinyl Toys. Basically all these artists, some famous and some not famous until after they make a toy, are doing these incredible works of art in the form of vinyl toys. And I am really digging this media, it provides a 3d canvas that really offers a new perspective on things.
So last night I decided to get crackin' on a small painting to accompany a custom dunny(see www.kidrobot.com) that I am doing as a trade with someone. Click the spoiler for the picture:
