Lot's to say lot's to say. I'll be posting a lot of reflections soon. About the Suicide Girl community, concerns, what I see as good, what I see as possible obstacles from it being called out as something that is not what it claims to be.
Everything starts out as a big idea - a protest - an alternative to the mainstream - but if it finds success - and gets some sort of recognition - it can merely become an expression of that which it was protesting against.
Albeit - factually I know very little about it - to say things with a strong sense of contradiction. Ultimately if it is a positive experience for people - women and guys - then that's great.
In terms of pornography, or going against society concerns about nudity and other things - could a Suicide Girl eventually become President of the United States after posing nude at a younger age on a web-site like this? Perhaps it's possible. Society's views do change. And really when it comes to Social media and the culture emerging from it - values will change too.
I see this as exhibitionism - and perhaps as shedding of wrongful, shameful ideas that society has about women exposing themselves. However if people see it as harmless, even if there is no proof as of yet that it is causing "textbook" delinquency - or juvenile behavior - you
Ultimately the Suicide Girls website - in my opinion - should justify it's existence by saying - this is a place for friendship and relating to people in a unique way where people otherwise may not have that opportunity.
Hopefully positive friendships will arise leading to confident and more aware people - keeping in mind what we are doing is pushing the boundaries - and the opportunities that we offer - are not closing too many doors for other types of achievement in more mainstream society.
There are A LOT of clever highly intelligent people out there men and women - from my experience men - who will play on the vulnerabilities of people. To think of an analogy to what I am saying - I'll use the election of President Obama as an example.
There are a lot of racist people in institutions who REALLY want to see him fail. When he became President something miraculous and what many people thought couldn't be done - was done. There was a release. People though that racism was over - which is not true. People in both the Caucasian community and the Black and Hispanic community were buzzed out by it.
There have been attempts to shut him down and shut the Presidency down - that would appall and scare most people. There are a lot of strong feelings associated to his Presidency - and those feelings and responses have to be managed and put into perspective.
Although not entirely similar -there are similarities - the achievement of women - in the framework of what is defined as success (which is probably patriarchal and misogynist) is and will be challenged. If you look at Ronda Rousey the UFC fighter - she is up against some serious odds and like President Obama - is ready to compete in a world that has significant institutions that are not ready for her - or are cowards - and don't see women as pushing the boundaries (even if they are playing by the rules) to achieve.
