This week end was incredible. My reserve unit went to Ft Irwin, NTC ( National Training Center). We went up there to shoot our weapons and qualify with them. I qualified expert with the 9mm pistol that is my assigned weapon. First time I ever shot one of the Army 9mm's. I have a bunch of my own and have been shooting since I was 10 years old so I am familiar with it. But they said here you go this counts, no practice and boom expert. Experience pays off, plus it helps that I own almost exactly the same weapon.
Then we went to the M16 range where I was a range safety and just stood around making sure my 2 soldiers were safe. Then when everyone qualified I picked up an M16 shot myself and would have qualified if it was for real. Mind you that was with a weapon that was sighted in for someone else. After everyone was qualified we had about 800 rounds to shoot off and I took the weapon that I was using, flipped it to 3 round burst and just cut loose. I had 10 magazines with at least 20 rounds in each one and just kept firing and dropping the mag and loading a new one until they were all gone. It is so much fun to do when you love guns. I put over 200 rounds down range in probably less then 5 minutes. It is awesome.
I am paying for it now though, I am sort of sore in my right shoulder and have broken a shit load of capilaries as well. You can see where the but of the weapon sits in my shoulder. It didn't bruise but you can see it.
Then when we were finished with that we went to the M203 40MM grenade launcher range and we each had the chance to fire off 3 rounds. That was a blast, I have never had the chance to do that before. At basic when we did it, I had pink eye and was at sick call and missed it. oh well I finally got my chance and I definately want to do it again.
