I prefer, and use, the term 'Ink'. There is a very good reason for this. In the UK, 'Tats' can also mean 'Tits'. In the North-East of England, on weekends, can be heard the mating cry of the heavily refreshed Geordie (from Newcastle-upon-Tyne), or the Mackem (from Sunderland), and the cry is: "Tats Oot!" These gentlemen, these silver-tongued cavaliers of the Tyne, are not interested in intricate designs, believe me. It might be done in the best possible taste, but I don't think so. So, to avoid a slap round the face, I always ask a girl who obviously has an intriguing tattoo, if she would mind if I looked at her ink. Never, if in the UK, ask to look at a young lady's 'Tats'. Especially if her boyfriend is in attendance; a pagga might ensue. 👍😊

Oh, and a 'Pagga' is usually a short, painful visit to a pub car-park. And then A and E.
