I actually had a post about being depressed about a month ago I think... my comment on it was that I strangely enjoy it since it's so it's so infrequent for me anymore. Weird take, I know. I have all the same side-effects as you... not wanting to be around my best friends, and just wanting to chill alone, or go for a long drive and get lost on purpose. 
Then I listen to the Smiths, and I feel better for some odd reason. I'm weird.
