After talking with Dan The Automator I came to the conclusion that when he speaks about the Handsome Boy Modeling School you cant really have a serious conversation. So you just have to lie back, go with it and maybe you can reach the plateau that he and Handsome Boy Modeling School collaborator Prince Paul have reached.
The new Handsome Boy Modeling School album is called White People which some may think is weird because neither one of the two Handsome Boy Modeling School collaborators are white but thats indicative of their sick and very funny senses of humor.

Daniel Robert Epstein: So youre personal website is wannabuyamonkey.net, right?
DAN THE AUTOMATOR: Maybe.
DRE: Are you just obsessed with Chris Elliott?
DTA: No, but he is the most famous person to come out of the Handsome Boy Modeling School so you cant help but have a little bit of homage to him sometimes.
DRE: I think hes the funniest guy on earth.
DTA: Definitely man. Hes definitely a very interesting man.
DRE: Have you ever met him?
DTA: No but weve talked on the phone with him and his people. I think Paul may have dealt with him because he does more comedy records. Hes definitely aware of the Handsome Boy concept and hes into it.
DRE: How do you and Prince Paul connect? Are you both just goofy?
DTA: I think basically its more of a Handsome thing. Once you start rolling in certain circles certain people will appear more in that circle. Being Handsome and traveling in the supermodel circuit, or whatever you want to call it, you see the same people over and over again like George Hamilton so Prince Paul is one of them. At certain times of the night I would go out and see a crowd of women around a poker or baccarat table and there would be this guy there. I was curious as to why all these women are gravitating to this guy so I introduced myself to him. I asked him what his name was and he said Chest Rockwell. We just started there.
DRE: I see how this is going to go.
Who is smoother with the ladies?
DTA: I would have to say Chest Rockwell is but thats just an opinion.
DRE: When you two go out who pays for the meal?
DTA: Being Handsome means being gracious. If we are around people who look like they need a good meal well treat. If we are out by ourselves, other people will pick up the check.
DRE: Thats how it is when you roll with being Handsome.
DTA: Exactly. The thing about the Handsome Boy Modeling School is that its not all about being fabulous or doing runway shows. Its about being more Handsome in your life whatever your life may be. If you are an accountant and you go to the Handsome Boy Modeling School you cant expect to become a supermodel unless you are really good looking. But you might get that intangible quality that gets you bumped up the corporate ladder or the secretaries start sleeping with you. We dont want people to get intimidated from coming to the Handsome Boy Modeling School because they dont feel they have model good looks. But its about making them the best Handsome Boy they can be.
DRE: How does being on a big label help things out?
DTA: I dont know if it does.
DRE: Is recording the Handsome Boy Modeling School albums a blast?
DTA: Its kind of one long dinner party. There are deadlines but we just get together and there is wine, women and song. We just have a meeting of the minds. Its a very organic thing to feel the synergy within the people involved.
DRE: What does Mike Patton bring to the dinner party?
DTA: I dont know if you know Mike Patton personally but he is a big connoisseur of food and wine.
DRE: I did not know that.
DTA: Very big. Funny you should mention him because him and John Medeski, who may or may not be on this record, are very knowledgeable about their food.
DRE: Do they bring wine to the party?
DTA: Medeski is more of a wine expert than Patton.
DRE: What kind of cheese goes best with the wine they bring?
DTA: It depends on the season but weve really been enjoying the white truffle goat cheese.
DRE: Is that made in your hometown of San Francisco?
DTA: No it isnt, but the region has some very good cheese makers, maybe not so much in San Francisco, but definitely in Northern California. I believe some good stuff comes from a couple of hours outside of town in Monterey.
DRE: You have Linkin Park on the new Handsome Boy Modeling School; we wouldnt normally expect them to be playing such interesting music. How did that end up happening?
DTA: Its like this; obviously Linkin Park is a very huge band in a very pop way. But at the same time there is some hip-hop underpinnings there just the idea of their melodic content. They came to us and said Its been really great selling 20 million albums in America and having all these 15 year old suburban kids as fans but we really want to become more Handsome. Its one those situations that is a perfect in that having success does not always equal handsomeness.
DRE: How would SuicideGirls fare with trying to hang with Handsome?
DTA: Theyre doing their thing. The thing about being a member of Handsome Boy Modeling School or getting along with Handsome Boy Modeling School is that it has more to do with attitude. Youve got to put yourself out there so those girls seem to be doing their thing so they can hang with Handsome Boy Modeling School. I know they can because we have hung out with them. I know Katie with the Jack Nicholson tattoo on her arm and a couple of her friends.
DRE: Its hard to forget that tattoo.
Is that the kind of girls youre into?
DTA: Hey, you know what it is. Here at the Handsome Boy Modeling School we have a motto. Maybe not so much a motto but more of a mantra but anything goes when it comes to being Handsome. You have to ask yourself Am I going to drive the Bentley or the Rolls-Royce today? If the quality is all good then youre Handsome.
DRE: Do you have any tattoos yourself?
DTA: Im not a tattooed up guy but I dont have a problem if thats peoples thing. At the Handsome Boy Modeling School we dont try to mold people in our image but try to mold them into the best image they can have.
DRE: Do you and Prince Paul ever have moustache growing contests?
DTA: The moustache thing is kind of an homage to various people throughout history like Tom Selleck or Oates from Hall and Oates and Yosemite Sam of course. Its not so much about how big you can grow your moustache but the style.
DRE: I suppose that goes for all aspects of the Handsome Boy Modeling School.
DTA: Style is important but were not going to take anyone out of the Handsome Boy Modeling School because they cant grow a moustache, theyre not muscle bound or they are lacking a little bit down there. We dont cast judgment.
DRE: What about being Handsome on the inside?
DTA: Thats actually the point. You cant really be Handsome on the outside if you arent Handsome on the inside. You can be really good looking on the outside but you might not have a Handsome personality or soul. It all starts from within.
DRE: Why did you call the album White People?
DTA: A variety of reasons. The record cover was commissioned from a photographer named Terry Richardson. He is a well known fashion photographer who has done campaigns for everyone from Gucci to whatever but he also has a whole other side to him. If you see his vision combined with our music you might understand what I am talking about. The reason I dont tell you what the cover means it because it means different things to different people. Its kind of like The Simpsons because you can watch Homer Simpson bump his head or you can watch it on another level like political satire.
DRE: Have you gotten any equipment thats really jazzing you up?
DTA: As far as equipment goes, that new Jack Lalanne juicer for the jet.
DRE: [laughs] What kind of juice do you make?
DTA: Its amazing man, you can make anything. You name it!
DRE: Do you mix it with liquor or do you do it for health reasons?
DTA: Initially it was to get the oxidants into my body but ultimately you can make party drinks. If you have a variety of vegetables, fruits and hot sauce you can do great things at the gym. You can make health drinks and have a morning shot of gin.
DRE: You ever throw a mouse in there?
DTA: I havent but if thats what people want to drink thats their business.
