Slunt is a combination slut/cunt but I wouldnt use either one of those words to describe Abby Gennet and Jenny Gunns. Mostly because they might beat me up and also because they are from the band Slunt. Of the four members of the band Abby is the vocalist/guitarist and Jenny is the bassist. Slunt is heavy rock band that started in New York City, signed with Repossession Records and just released an album. Their tour has just begun and they will be slunting soon to a venue near you.

Daniel Robert Epstein: I didnt realize I was going to do both of you at the same time.
Abby Gennet: Yeah we like that.
DRE: I looked up Slunt in urbandictionary.com and it means someone who is both a slut and a cunt.
AG: Thats the general consensus.
Jenny Gunns: We never heard that before!
DRE: [laughs] What made you go with that as a name?
AG: A friend of a friend suggested it and we thought it was funny.
JG: Were lucky it wasnt that obvious to my grandmother. She said It sounds like a dirty word but its not.
AG: Thats what I say to the parental type people.
DRE: Are your parents very interested in your band?
AG: Oh yeah! They are very interested in our careers.
DRE: What do they think of it?
AG: I think they like it. I doubt they are jamming out to it on a Friday night but they support us at shows and they are smiling when we come out onstage.
DRE: What do they jam to on a Friday night?
AG: Probably the Bee Gees and Billy Joel.
JG: Thats an interesting question. I will have to look into what my mom is playing these days. Abbys parents came to a show and they think I am very flexible.
AG: My dad kept telling her how flexible she was. Im glad he noticed.
DRE: Thats disturbing?
JG: I know. I was like Yeah! My mom asked me if I choreographed it because it looked planned.
DRE: What did you tell her?
JG: Just that we all work well together.
DRE: Where did they see you?
AG: At BB Kings when we opened for Vince Neil. It was a hoot.
DRE: Would that be a better place to see you than some dive bar/club?
JG: If you are a parental then yes.
AG: My parents have come to CBGB and had a blast. Wherever we are we just put on the same show.
DRE: So you didnt have to tone it down for BB Kings?
AG: Hell no! We dont tone it down for anyone.
DRE: How was it opening for Vince?
AG: It was great. We got to play for some people who had never heard us before which is nice. It was a big crowd.
DRE: How did Vince pick you guys?
JG: What are you asking us really? Our knees werent bruised the next day.
AG: Actually Im pretty good friends with Vinces bassist Alan Vine.
DRE: I definitely wasnt implying that you guys had sex with Vince Neil, ugh! I couldnt imagine, ew!
JG: A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do. We want it to leak out that we make a great fluffer band on the road.
DRE: I was reading this article about you Abby where you once took a set of pictures called The Prom Mom. What were those?
AG: For a while I was doing some crazy photography and showing stuff in galleries. I would take fucked up things in the media and recreate them. I had a whole website called promom.com which I took down once I started working for Viacom. They were a little freaky about that. Prom mom was about the girl who gave birth at the prom and then threw the baby in a dumpster. I still get emails asking me about that.
DRE: What are you doing for Viacom?
AG: I was a VJ on MTV2 and VH1. Now Im hosting the AOL broadband rock concerts like tonight Im hosting a Good Charlotte concert.
DRE: That doesnt seem very cool.
AG: Its super cool. They pay me lots of money and I can work one day a month.
DRE: So Slunt isnt paying the bills.
AG: Not just yet.
JG: One day rock will pay the bills.
AG: Well we just got signed to Repossession Records and we are going to hit the road soon.
DRE: Who are you touring with?
AG: Were doing some dates with Zeke, Fu Manchu and were also doing Voodoo Festival.
JG: Yeah this year its huge.
DRE: Last year was a great lineup.
AG: I went last year. It was great!
JG: What did you think of our website?
DRE: Its cool. Whose panties are those on the front page?
AG: That would be mine.
DRE: I suppose all those cuts arent real.
AG: No.
DRE: Have you guys gone much on your message boards?
AG: Right now its more like a guestbook but were trying to get a chat forum going.
DRE: How do you think things will change now that you are on Repossession?
JG: We have a cool van that makes our friends jealous.
DRE: Whats cool about the van?
AG: It takes us across the country.
DRE: The other one didnt?
AG: We never had one before. We just played around the New York area so we just rented or borrowed. Now were mobile so well be slunting across America corrupting the youth.
DRE: Can the van handle the craziness?
AG: Its going to have to.
DRE: Are you going to pick up hitchhikers?
AG: Yeah well just throw them in the trailer.
DRE: If you guys picked up a hitchhiker and he pulled a knife whats the first thing you would do?
AG: Get Charles. Hes our drummer and he carries a knife.
DRE: Does he think you cant take care of yourselves?
AG: We can take care of ourselves but its always nice to know that Charles has our backs.
DRE: What kind of knife does he have?
AG: He always has a pocket knife.
DRE: Not a big bowie knife.
AG: No he doesnt have a big hatchet. But hes definitely good to have around. He can be very intimidating but we know hes a pussycat.
DRE: How did you hook up with Charles?
AG: Hes an original Slunt member. We started a couple of years ago just jamming. I would go down to a friends recording space with a bunch of jazz/funk musicians. Charles used jazz/funk guy and he adds such a different flavor than a regular rock drummer would add. But with us if he does any jazzy moves we yell at him and he stops. We started off as a three piece then we had this guy Adam playing bass but he was too jazzy so we had to swap him out for Jenny Gunns then we added Pat who is our lead guitarist because Im just a rhythm player. With Jenny and Pat we really heavied up the sound.
DRE: Was there ever any conflicts over him not being a girl?
JG: I attack him sometimes.
DRE: So is he in sync with your periods?
JG: We all are.
AG: Though Charles gets PMS worse than us.
JG: Everyone gets pissy when we get more chicks than them. Chicks just attack us like flies to honey.
