OH MY GOD! AWESOMNESS HAS JUST HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found my notebook from Europe last year!!!!!
I really, really, really thought it was gone forever. I have dozens upon dozens of notebooks (all sizes, shapes, for writing or drawing), and this is a small-ish one that I thought was lost in the multiple moves this year.
AGHHHH I'm so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It has so much greatness in it--
I wrote in it like a journal, so there's a great recounting of the trip itself
Funny little poems
Hangman games from being on long train trips
All sorts of funny language things (things I could of course say before, but did know the right slang-- SO funny)
Tons of notes about places I'd been, and a lot of drawings! I forgot how many buildings, and people, I drew (this is terrible, but I only draw people that strike me as really ridiculous looking... so I draw them as weird little monsters... not the kindest thing, I know...)
Here's a little piece:
May 1:
In addition to way-too-much-clothing, a liter of chianti does a very heavy backpack make.
June 2 (on a flight from Dublin to NY)
It feels so alien to be going back right now. I guess I've been on the road longer than I've lived in my current apartment which (reasonably enough) creates an odd feeling. The real world returns: school, work, money, Bogie purring in my face @ 5 AM...
Favorite places? Firenze, Bari, Perugia, Pisa. Not Bruxelles.
Unforgettable:
Going to the top of Vesuvio, sweeping views of Umbria, poppy fields in bloom, la grotta bianca, squeezing through the tiny passageway in the ancient acqueducts (can't spell) under Napoli, music in the squares in Venezia at night, 7 AM riots in Napoli, the velvety sands of Rimini, the phenomenal, glorious beauty of Michelangelo's statue of David, having lunch in the midst of RUINS, my first arugula pizza, the fucking TOMATOES!!!!
June 5:
Things are strange but all you can really do is stare up at the sky and beg a little sunshine to kiss you on the cheeks
Lots of really important stuff in this notebook:
Best thing I found:
vietato oltrepassare la linea gialla!
es ist verboten die gelbe Linie zu berschreiten!
Translation: HEY DICK, DON'T CROSS THE YELLOW LINE!
Wow wow wow, I'm so happy to find this. I can't wait to actually read it. I have really bad handwriting though, so it's a challenge...
