Japanese Scientists Create World's First Ballroom-Dancing Robot

Japanese scientists have developed a fantastic dancing robot:

The world's first ballroom-dancing robot is set to take to the floor for its first public performance this week at the World Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan.

Developed by scientists at Tokhuro University, the Partner Ballroom Dance Robot (PBDR) is able to predict the steps of a human partner based on body movement and react accordingly on its three wheels.

The 1.65 meter robot has a female face, wears a ballgown and comes in bright pink and pastel blue plastic. A male version is also being developed.

Combine this with some Real Doll and Teledildonics technology, and even D&D Message Board nerds could have a 1d4 + 3 percent chance to get laid on Prom night!

I love robots. Not, you know, physically. They say it can predict body movement and they give it a cute application; dancing, but we know that they'll just be able to rip us puny humans apart with their predicative machine kung fu.

Another cool robot thing I've seen this week was a Korean kit that you can build and connect to your pc:
weird wmv streaming video thing
Korean page
It dances! It Kicks!

It's heartening to know, in the face of the challenges posed by global warming and by the proliferation of nuclear technology to rogue states and terrorist organizations, that the best and brightest of our kind are using their vast intellectual powers to make an automaton who can dance to a Guy Lombardo record.

I think there are probably more and better applications for the technology than just dancing. But making it dance creates public interest which creates money.
