Mr. Sixx Goes To Washington... To Talk About Heroin

The first concert I ever attended was Motley Crue at the Orange County Fairgrounds in upstate New York. They were playing with Tesla, and even at that age I knew that they sorta of sucked.

Somewhere between the girlie-fied, hippie rock of Tesla and the thrash-tastic glam of the Crue, I lost my sneaker. All I recall is a wall of mulleted-humanity crashing down on top of me as I was thrust towards the stage. A moment of falling, a moment of panic, and then the sweet relief of getting yanked up and over to safety by a burly security guard. (C'mon, I was like 11. I'd do better now...maybe.)

When I looked down my sneaker was gone. Not surprisingly, my parents cut back on allowing me to got to out of state concerts with people older than me, who they met once for three minutes.

Nikki Sixx is probably my favorite Motley Crue member. Less-douchey than Tommy Lee, less-hard to look directly at than Mick Mars and less-Vince Neil than, well, Vince Neil...

While Lee and Neil have spent the past few years in reality TV hell, and Mick Mars has been doing whatever it is that Mick Mars does, it appears Sixx has been busy writing a new book about his heroin days called appropriately enough The Heroin Diaries. No word on whether it comes complete with unicorns and needles scribbled on the margins. "Dear Diary- I think Katy likes me! LOL. Also, I just injected two ounces of black tar into an eyeball vein I'd never before noticed... OMG! Wish me luck!"

I think the key here is whether or not the book glamorizes heroin and the excesses of rockstardom. Obviously, at some point he has to wake up and decide he's against it. I know this because he is not currently dead. But, when, and for how long, is he pro-heroin?

My hope is that he comes to the realization that heroin is bad... on the very last page of the book. Last paragraph even. Better yet, put it on the back cover. Put an ellipsis on the last page, flip over and read: "Then I got clean. The end."

Those of you in the DC area might also want to check this out:

Motley Crue founding member Nikki Sixx whose brutally honest upcoming book The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star (due September 18th from MTV Pocket Books/Simon & Schuster) chronicles his battles with drug addiction and his road to recovery, will be a featured speaker at the 18th Annual National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month luncheon on Capitol Hill, September 6th. He is the first rock star to speak at this event.

NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals invited Sixx to share his story at this national forum alongside Terry Cline, Ph.D, Administrator, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and H. Westley Clark, MD, JD, MPH, Director, SAMHSA Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.

Wow. Yeah, follow that, Doc! I hope they let him close. Also, I hope his stories follow the same format I layed out for the book. If he speaks for an hour, 59 minutes better be a vicarious thrill-ride through heroin-soaked ecstasy... Then, a one minute wrap-up on the possible downside.

Although, I think the fact that Nikki Sixx gave it up, probably means no one this side of Keith Richards should be doing it. That definitely includes me... the guy who got high once and tried to punch out a lamp.

Motley Crüe Movie Slated for 2007

Who's the one that makes ya feel good?
Who's the one that makes ya feel alright?

Larry Charles.

The Borat director has signed on to helm the biopic about Motley Crüe, the movie version of the band's autobiography "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band." Obviously, this could very well be the greatest movie ever made. Even better news, is that hard core porn writer Rich Wilkes is responsible for transforming the tome into a screenplay. I wonder what parts of the book Mr. Wilkes will concentrate on in the movie adaptation. Vince mourning the loss of his daughter? Nikki Sixx's troubled past? Or banging Girls, Girls, Girls?

Nikki Sixx has said the band will remain deeply involved in the MTV/Paramount production that should see release in 2007.

Casting has yet to be finalized so start making bets on who will play who. The most obvious choice of having the band play themselves seems unlikely with the band currently on tour with Aerosmith and production set to begin in Fall.
