Robert Pollard Readies Seven Releases For 2007

Fans need not be dismayed over the demise of Robert Pollard's long-running band Guided By Voices, as he has revealed that he has seven new releases of pure Pollard magic in the pipleline for the new year. The former GBV frontman recently discussed his break from touring and his new projects with Billboard.

"This touring thing is too much, it's too hard to psychologically re-energize yourself each night...you get tired of beating your head against the wall"

Bob has instead busied himself with a release schedule unrivaled even by the likes of Ryan Adams. First up in March, The indie-curmudgeon will release a 50-track retrospective of songs, entitled Crickets, from his Fading Capatin Series, marking an end to it's seven-year long run. This will be followed in the spring by a collaboration with GBV bassist Chris Slusarenko under the name Takeovers. Next up is two albums (Sgt. Disco and Bad Football) with collaborator Todd Tobias under the moniker Circus Devils (many releases exist under this name and are available on Fading Captain) likely to be released as a double-disc set.

Pollard has also started a new label for the release of more archival recordings, called Record Company Records. The releases will be vinyl-only. the first to feature nothing but drunk on-stage rants from the 49 year old's long career of, well, drunken rambling. The second release on the new imprint will be pre-Guided by Voices-era recordings.

Next fall, Pollard will release a proper studio album on Merge Records, entitled Silverfish Trivia. The album will feature 15 tracks which the singer claims are "somber, "strange" and "prog-like."

Jesus, Robert, give us time to let it all soak in!
