Adam & (St)Eve

The Canadian House of Commons voted on Tuesday to adopt legislation that would legalize same sex marriages nationwide. Canada becomes the third nation (and the first G8 nation) to officially recognize gay and lesbian matrimonial unions. The margin of victory was slim, with 158 MPs voting for the passage of the bill and 133 voting to kill it, but the Canadian dream of a just society is still alive.

"(This) is about the Charter of Rights," Prime Minister Paul Martin said earlier today.

"We are a nation of minorities. And in a nation of minorities, it is important that you don't cherry-pick rights.

"A right is a right and that is what this vote tonight is all about."

It was a triumph for believers of progressive humanism, and a big 'fuck you' to the forces of ignorance.

I remember when Canada was just the next-door neighbor with the weird accent and a goofy flag.

And now...they're the "Bad News Bears" of Democracy.

My GF is a Canadian citizen...maybe she can get me in... smile

The couple's marriage would not be recognized in the United States. Well, maybe Hawaii.
