Greenpeace Protesters Thrashed by Oil Traders

Protester organizer's meticulous planning for a raid yesterday on London's International Petroleum Exchange missed and important detail: oil trading is an occupation for young men…brutally aggressive young cockney men.

WHEN 35 Greenpeace protesters stormed the International Petroleum Exchange (IPE) yesterday they had planned the operation in great detail.

What they were not prepared for was the post-prandial aggression of oil traders who kicked and punched them back on to the pavement.

“We bit off more than we could chew. They were just Cockney barrow boy spivs. Total thugs,” one protester said, rubbing his bruised skull. “I’ve never seen anyone less amenable to listening to our point of view.”

Another said: “I took on a Texan Swat team at Esso last year and they were angels compared with this lot.” Behind him, on the balcony of the pub opposite the IPE, a bleary-eyed trader, pint in hand, yelled: “Sod off, Swampy.”

At least now the world knows where soccer hooligans get their beer money.

see previous thread from 5 days ago. Yes, the news wire serves a different function, but the discussion it creates is (in this case) already in progress

There's a few politics stories that have been queued for a few days. Probably not the fault of the writer.

Yeah, I know news stories get queued and reviewed. But since it is the same topic everyone is discussing here, I thought it might help them to see what has already been discussed. Not that it isn't fun to have the same arguments all over again wink

I can't wait to see how many more "Tough guys" come out to play on this thread.

w00t!

Talking shit on the threads, the poor man's H2.

If you like the idea of Greenpeace, but think they are a bloated and bullshit organization--try these guys. Less talk, more Rawk.

and they have cool t-shirts

So, again, w00t!

I hear the guys that put spikes in baby harp seal brains are tough as shit too (you probably get a lot of hard fuckin' guys that could care less about anything but money in their pockets in these trades--I'm just sayin'). And that guy that fucked up and dumped oil all over south Alaska--fuck he was a drunk, tough as shit, oil guy too!

w00t.

What trades do you speak of ?. I've spent plenty of time in Alaska and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't care about the environment , or isn't interested in conservation. The have to be. It's their livelihood and the source of food on many a table. Unfortunately, due to some idiotic laws being passed, many communities are now hanging on a thread and the work that many do has now gotten much more dangerous for them because of it.

yeah that's a great piece of advice. Especially when other people's irresponsible use of that product, and the product manufacturers themselves are posing a direct threat to your own welfare and everything you personally hold dear.
That's like saying "If you oppose Nuclear weapons, just stop using them"QUOTE]

ironically, that would be good advice for certain western powers. i love the whole "no-one's allowed nuclear arms except us" attitude. anyway, digression...

Protestors on the street are one thing. Protestors tresspassing on public property (not goverment property which they by definition own) and thinking they have a right to bother people at work is another. and they, as someone else so eloquently put it, go pwned.

An opinion mean less to me if people spout it unopposed. opposition forces people to become stronger. or escalate. which I hate.
thats why Protest Warrior is so awesome. to see non violent protestors go into a fury bcause they don't have a monoploy of hyperbolic placards.

That was his fault. I'm not saying you blamed his death on the french. But when a boat is sinking and all hands are off the boat, let it go.

Haha, they got owned.

Maybe, but they got lots of worldwide publicity across multiple media channels. if it had been just another quiet and uneventful protest, would we be reading about it here?

Greenpeace got exactly what it wanted, and lots of it.

This was win/win - they got publicity, and the oil traders got to beat people up and feel superior.
