My Opponent Is a Gay Homosexual

The already weird re-election campaign of incumbent Republican Senator from Kentucky Jim Bunning got weirder, as leading Republicans questioned the manhood and sexuality of Democratic challenger Daniel Mongiardo at a rally yesterday.

A top state Republican called Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Dan Mongiardo "limp-wristed," and another GOP state legislator said she questions whether "the word 'man' applies to him" in speeches during Sen. Jim Bunning's campaign bus tour yesterday.

Both state Senate President David Williams of Burkesville and state Sen. Elizabeth Tori of Radcliff denied they intended to raise questions about Mongiardo's sexual orientation -- though Tori later said that if any listeners thought she was referring to his sexuality, "so be it."


For Williams's part, he said that "limp-wristed" doesn't mean "gay", and, further, it's the Democrats who are saying being gay is bad, not him.

"'Limp-wristed' denotes weakness. It's not a sexual slur," Williams said. "I'm not going to have them limiting my choice of vocabulary, my freedom of speech," he said, referring to Bunning's opposition.

"Besides, I don't understand the Democrats on this one," Williams added. "I'm not saying anything about anyone's sexual orientation. But if I were -- are they saying that's pejorative, that it's bad to be homosexual? I don't think they would say that, but how can they have it both ways?"


OK, sure, Dave. This strikes me as sounding like one of those asshats who calls things they don't like "gay" and then claims they're not being homophobic.

Meanwhile, the doddering junior senator continues to say bizarre things that give his opponents ammunition.

At St. Catharine College in Springfield, he referred to "November the 11th" while speaking about the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.


The Bunning campaign is a slow-motion trainwreck at this point. Expect the Democrats to pick up a seat here in the Bluegrass state.

I was at my cousins house the other day and we called up my other cousin to get him to come out.

He said no.

The cousin I was with said "don't be such a pussy."

Was he questioning my cousins sexuality? Or was he just using an inappropriate slur to attack his supposed weakness?

That is, after all, how most people use these slurs.

And here is the context: both speeches were in front of rabidly Republican crowds in little towns in backwoods Kentucky, and were made after speeches lambasting John Kerry and Daniel Mongiardo for not opposing gay marriage (never mind that both of them have said they think marriage should be between a man and a woman; they've just said constituional amendments to ban it are unneccesary.) With the amount of gay-baiting the Republicans are doing in this race, that's damn well what they meant. Williams and Tori might as well have said "That Mongiardo boy sure looks like a faggot to me." That's what the crowd heard, anyway, judging from the roar of approval it got.

Sorry couldn't get past the title "... Gay Homosexual." Sounds like an oxymoron. Someone is either referred to as Gay or as a Homosexual. To state that a particular Homosexual is Gay... isn't that calling him or her Straight?

Therefore to re-title "My Opponent is a Straight"

the rest, I couldn't care about Republican or Democrat positions... unless there's pictures tongue

You can't say something is a better argument relative to your post because you didn't actually make an argument.

You ignored the rather obvious context of a news story to defend someone pandering to a crowd's homophobia. Then you offered a completely inapposite anecdote as backup. I was smarmy about it, but that doesn't make you any less wrong.

You should watch their TV ads; now there's a constant source of entertainment. I especially like how Bunning and his contemparies like to brag how they're opposed to gay marriage while avoiding the "offensive" word. Instead, they constantly crow how they "fight to protect marriage," as if rabid hordes of homosexuals will break into your home and court house to rip up your marriage certificate and convert your wife to lesbianism.

Honestly I hate SG's "NEWS" because it is rarely news, it is just political commentary, on both sides.
