Schwarzenegger for President?

Last night the wife and I were watching something at a friends house about Schwarzenegger's life. Acting then politics, etc. Some guy at the end said "He's aiming for the top, I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up in the white house!" which struck us as funny, since according to this little thing called the Constituion you have to be born in America to president. We laughed at what a dumb ass that guy was and forgot all about it. This morning I wake up and read this.

The Republican governor said anyone who has been a U.S. citizen for at least 20 years — as he has — should "absolutely" be able to seek the presidency. A constitutional amendment proposed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, would make that possible.

"There are so many people in this country that are now from overseas, that are immigrants, that are doing such a terrific job with their work, bringing businesses here, that there's no reason why not," said Schwarzenegger, who became a U.S. citizen in 1983.

Oh great, someone with a worse vocabulary than Bush as POTUS. whatever

Personally, I don't have a problem with naturalized citizens as President since I don't particularly believe that emigration laws are very fair (since as an American, I find it next to impossible to just go live abroad), but I think I would rather allow for those who have been raised in the US but were born in a foreign country of foreign parents first. Someone who has been raised here since near birth is as much a citizen as I am.

Now, let's consider disallowing Texans from the Presidency. wink

This was from his Meet the Press interview, which I just watched. In context, he was asked the question, after learning about the Hatch amendment.

So, for anyone that cares, he did not just spontaneously announce *his* wishes. He answered a question asked about people in general and the potential amendment in general.

And, PS, a Schwarzenegger as President joke was made in Demolition Man.

Now we need to spend the next couple of years teaching people that just because someone is a celebrity does NOT mean they should be president.

Well, in his favor Schwarzenegger was a better actor than Ronald Reagan. Not that that's saying a whole lot....

Maybe we just need to send all the stupid people out of the country. We could have some questions to make sure they're dumb enough to ship out.

Question 1: Would you vote for a celebrity simply because it's "cool"?

If they answer yes, off they go.

That only counts if they're liberal Hollywood elitists, right? wink

LOL...I love the contradictions among conservatives.

"State's Rights, except for same-sex relations, medical marijuana and euthanasia."

"Get the Federal Government away from my guns, but they need to stop abortions and snoop on people's sex lives."

"Those Hollywood librul elites need to shut up, all they get is camera time, but it's okay if Arnold takes out illegal loans to pay for his election campaign."
