30 States May Ban Abortion

Abortion may become a crime in 30 states if the Supreme Court overturns the famous Roe v Wade decision.

The Center for Reproductive Rights said some states have old laws on the books that would be triggered by the overturning of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision. Others have language in their state constitutions or strongly anti-abortion legislatures that would act quickly if the federal protection for abortion was ended and the issue reverted to the states.

"The building blocks are already in place to recriminalize abortion," said Nancy Northup, the center's president.

The Supreme Court justices are split 5-4 in favor of abortion rights. But if George W. Bush is elected another term, he could nominate a new justice who shares his anti-abortion views.

21 states are at high risk of banning abortion: Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Delaware, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin. The remaining nine (at a medium risk) are Arizona, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania.

Actually, just to be cantankerous, and apropos nothing at all to do with the US Supreme Court...

I think "pro-choice" versus "pro-life" is a battle of weasel words. (Who could be against choice? Who could be against life?)

The issue is abortion, yet neither side wants to put it in their chosen appelation.

Fuck that shit. I'm pro-abortion. I don't mean I want people to HAVE abortions, but I want people to BE ABLE TO HAVE ABORTIONS and I'll be blunt about saying so.

Hence: I'm pro-abortion.

Minority of 1, of course. wink

I disagree. I do not believe the choice "has" to be there, because I believe it shouldn't be a choice at all... it is taking a life.

See, we disagree. And you won't convince me otherwise, and I won't convince you otherwise.

This is really why I prefer posting about video games and naked girls. These real life issue threads just end up having stubborn people on both sides saying the same things over and over. Really, anything I could possibly say in this thread I have said in abortion threads in the past.

You don't even deserve to look at naked women! You obviosly don't respect their rights! So a couple of cells growing in my body have more rights then I do! Yes everyone deserves to have an opinion, but yours is wrong MUTHAHFUCKAH and so are you!!! I hate to get personal, but I take it as a personal insult that you find it appropriate to objectify women by looking at them naked but you don't think that they deserve to have control of their own bodies. Women are more then incubators for your flacid penis and your unborn child.

I hate the reply button because I'm used to replying to each specific portion of a comment, but oh well.

Here, I can do this too.

You don't even deserve to be around humans! You don't respect life!

Blah blah blah blah blah.

Yeah, whatever. Did you know that about 40-50% of US women are pro-life?

Weird that so many women are a position that is obviously ANTI-WOMAN.

My appreciation of you just continues to grow.

I also have to agree with you on the abortion issue. I'm not a fan of the idea of abortion but I would never, ever, ever infringe on a woman's right to have one.

A woman's body is hers. The government has no right to it, neither does her husband, boyfriend, whatever. If you're a man and having a kid, yes, it's fair that you have some input into the abortion issue. However, you can not force a woman to do something to her body she's not willing to do. You can't make her have the abortion and you can't stop her either.

Home sweet home

The Republic of Ireland
'Miss X' was a fourteen year-old girl who lived in the Republic of Ireland. In 1992, She was raped by her school-friend's father and became pregnant. The Irish constitution forbids abortion, but every year thousands of Irish women go to England, where abortions became legal in 1967.

Miss X pleaded with her parents to take her to London for an abortion and they agreed. Because of the trial of the school-friend's father, the family told the Irish police what they were going to do.

The result was a terrible legal argument in Ireland. Miss X's life was a nightmare. The police telephoned her family in London and said that they must return home without having the abortion. The girl said she would kill herself.

The Irish public - and many other people around the world - watched in horror as the lawyers continued to argue about the Irish constitution and rights of a child who had been raped. After several weeks, Miss X was finally allowed to leave Ireland again so that she could end her pregnancy.

Here's how you do it.

[ QUOTE ] is the beginning quote tag. Put that before the piece you want to quote.
[ /QUOTE ] is the end quote tag. Put it after the piece you want to quote.

You're free to write anything in between.

So

I

can

do

this.

I don't respect life? Some things you should know about me:

1-I have never had an abortion or been pregnant.
2-I run an outreach group that does volunteer work teaching inner city kids after school (among other things). So I see the effects of lack of education about / access to birth control. I won't bother explaining how "choice" saves lives, since I don't think you would understand or care!
3-I have a great respect for life of all things, not only human.

I'm not trying to jump down your throat or fight, but I'll admit, I'm damn stubborn and always have to get the last word. And I honestly feel that no matter what your opinion is, the choice is up to women anyway.

I can list a million reasons why I respect women as well.

I don't honestly think you don't respect life. And I definately don't think I don't respect women.

My point was we can throw insults back and forth all day if we want to view it from close-minded perspectives.

"WOMAN HATER!"

"BABY KILLER!"
