Fox News Reprimands Reporter for Fake Quotes

Fox News has reportedly disciplined one of its reporters for writing a story that included fake quotes attributed to John Kerry.

"Didn't my nails and cuticles look great? What a good debate!" the article by Carl Cameron read, purportedly quoting Kerry after the event.

"Women should like me! I do manicures," the story also quotes Kerry as telling the crowd.

Fox News posted an apology on its Web site:

The item was based on a reporters partial script that had been written in jest and should not have been posted or broadcast. Foxnews.com also regrets that error, which occurred because of fatigue and bad judgment, not malice.

kerry is a far better athlete than bush (obviously these fuckers have never tried windsurfing) and carries shrapnel in his thigh from combat (his doctor says that on a ct scan the piece of metal near his femur looks to be about the size of a bullet), and the feeble attempts by the right to paint him as effeminate are looking increasingly ridiculous.

but don't expect them to stop, because kerry made bush look weak the other night. this is just one part of the straw-grasp-a-thon that will now begin in earnest because bush so clearly lost the first debate. whether the disinformation campaign will reach the lows karl rove has stooped to before--launching whisper campaigns falsely alleging that an opponent is a pedophile, for example (see the current atlantic monthly)--remains to be seen.

the posting of carl cameron's fictional quotes on the fox site as a news story was an "error." yeah, sure, whatever.

Am I being completely irrational with the following logic?

If Kerry is a man who cares about his personal appearance, takes care of himself and enjoys looking good, that may extend to taking care of America, and working to improve it, and it's image to the world?

If you meet anyone who thinks that Fox News doesn't have a political orientation, send me a picture.

I can send you a picture of Bill O'Reily. He's busy jerking off in the "no spin zone" what a joke.

I wouldn't be surprised if this one is actually a very carefully planned black-op and not a mistake.

The first argument for this is that news sites have typically pretty strict processes for publizing material - it just don't happen that something ends up in their frontpage.

The second argument is the result. Now basically all newspapers (including the Finnishi newspapers!) have published the faked quotes. Even if people know they are not true, the quotes are still bound to have an effect on Kerry's image.

This highlights the difference in the way the "liberal" press treats democrats and republicans. In stories bashing democrats (purple heart, war criminal, metrosexual) the story is about the accusation and, the accusation gets aired and re-aired for a 3 minute segment every half hour. So, for the next few days we'll hear, "A fox news reporter(Carl Camerepublican) accused John Kerry of being a femmish metrosexual"
When a republican is the target of the attack, the focus is immediately shifted onto the accuser. (service record, harken energy, drunk driving) In each of these cases the accusation gets very little airtime, instead the media focuses their attention to other parts of the story.

turn on your AM radio. several times a day, you'll hear callers who don't trust anything in the "liberal" media, and thank god that FOX is around to show a fairer picture.
