Bush May Skip 'Town Hall' Debate

Noises coming from the Bush camp suggest that he is considering skipping one of three presidential debates this year to avoid a biased format.

The audience for the second debate, to be at Washington University in St. Louis, was to be picked by the Gallup Organization. The commission said participants should be undecided voters from the St. Louis area.

A presidential adviser said campaign officials were concerned that people could pose as undecided when they actually are partisans.

Washington University's newspaper Student Life followed up on the rumor and found more evidence to confirm it.

If the second debate is cancelled, it won't be a first. Bill Clinton refused one of the debates with Bob Dole in 1996.

Shouldn't a presidential candidate be able to defend their policies against partisans adequately enough? But i guess the flip side is that no answer can sufficently please someone diametrically opposed to you and everything you stand for. I suppose i'd also rather there not be hecklers at a presidential debate as well. But maybe that's just me.

What would happen if Kerry showed up anyways and just talked to undecided people instead of a debate? tongue

bush following in clinton's footsteps. he skipped that debate too when he was incumbent. What gives? The other two debates went on without a hitch.

a great idea. as for following in Clinton's steps he didn't need three debates to show he would make a better president than Dole. Bush needs about a million.

The American public could give a damn about who makes what point in the debate. I could personally whip Bush in any debate, on any subject. . . yet I wouldn't receive more than 3 votes (myself, my girl, and my mom . .. .maybe). It's sad to say it, but the U.S. citizenry, on the whole, is thicker than the thickest of bricks. But that's what we get for standing by public education for so long.

Clinton didn't cancel the St. Louis debate, it was the result of a complex negotiation between the campaigns. They also had four to start with, not just three.

Kerry should debate Nader in St. Louis, then agree with 100% of what he says just to mess with his head.

Then once Naders' "head a splode", Kerry could be like "heh. just joshin' ya Nady-boy kiss "

Or I could not drink so much nyquil blackeyed

Im going to bed *grumble*

It's sure a good thing that our thick population has been blessed with an intellectual powerhouse such as yourself. I don't know how we've been able to get out of our own way for the last 100 years. I'm sure our culture of ignorance is why so many people in so many parts of the world struggle for the opportunity to come here and learn at an American University, a chance to be among the dullest and slowest the world has to offer must be an honor for them.

I'm going to go try to have a conversation with the outer wall of my house.
