New Jersey Governor McGreevey Resigns

New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey, who has caught hell in the past for various state blunders, announced today that he is resigning because of a homosexual extramarrital affair.

His wife was by his side as he revealed his sexual preference and said that his gay relationship violated his marriage vows.

The now openly gay governor said that to stay in office after revealing today’s bombshell (be it his coming out or his extra-material affair) would only incite rumors and create an atmosphere of distrust. So he will resign Nov 15th, well after the next Presidential election.

Thanks to Cash for the link.

Maybe living in denial is what made him be such a dick.

Right, because that would never happen in court...what a great defense. Your honor it is very likely that there might be a possibility my client was set up. Sorry very likely means very likely...in our court system you need evidence to say anything is very likely and you have none.
On one hand, you say we need proof to call him guilty, but say you need none to imply a set up is very likely. huh?

All I am doing is what any lawyer or investigator is supposed to do: think of the possible alternate scnearios before simply believing the accusation. It's called critical thinking. It helps avoid lynching someone. I'd be just as happy to find out he wasn't blackmailed and that he's a letch. I was just suggesting to keep an open mind that the guy's coming forward does not equal him being guilty. But the point is that before anyone jumps the gun, all possibilities should be thought of--BEFORE it gets to court.

A scenario based off what real information? You can make stuff up and get a cardboard badge and call it whatever you'd like. I'm putting myself in the place of a lawyer that would fry his ass with this. I'm saying these actions can be used by a lawyer to easily imply guilt. This isn't the best way to go into a sexual harassment trial. Two facts we know, he resigned and there is a sexual harassment suit looming...not a good combo for McGreevey and his team.

Hey! Don't blame me..a good start would be to look at the last three mayors of Camden and most of the City Council.

My plan would start by turning those huge 16 inch guns on the USS New Jersey on half the city and blowing it to smithereens.. heeeeheee.

anyway, you are in Lawnside now, and Lawnside has BARBEQUE.

And here we go again placing blame on the Republicans. He's about to be involved in a sexual harassment suit involving one of his former staffers. By you implicating Republicans in things, you perpetuate the atmosphere of distrust you speak of.

Although I was only half serious, there's not much I would put past the current administration. I consider them to be radicals. And if the true definition of fascism is rule by corperation(s), well, if the shoe fits...

And again, I think McGreevey is/was a shitty governor anyway, regardless of his party. Maybe you don't recall, but I did say that the last governor I felt somewhat ok with in this state was Kean, a republican.

And what's wrong w/ an atmospere of distrust? Why should we really be so trusting? Hindsight is always 20/20. People think it's far fetched that Bush would have allowed 9/11, yet it's only started coming to light in recent years that FDR allowed Pearl Harbor to be bombed because he felt our involvement in WWII was neccessary. Distrust played an essential role in this country's coming into being.

I was born in Jersey City. Other than it's recent yuppification, it's essentially a shit hole. But my family was originally from Hudson county, and my mom's dr delivered babies there. My great-great-grandparents lived in Hoboken back in the days of cobblestone streets and horses. My dad was born in Newark, currently another open sore of a city. They're just places that have big hospitals, dude. No biggie.

According to the AP article Two sources said Cipel was demanding money to make the scandal go away.

One source, a senior McGreevey political adviser, said Cipel threatened McGreevey several weeks ago that unless he was paid "millions of dollars," Cipel would file a lawsuit against the governor charging him with sexual harassment.

That source said a lawyer for Cipel "indicated that should the money be paid, Cipel would disappear until after the 2005 election."

The second source, a high-ranking member of the McGreevey administration, said Cipel made several threats about a lawsuit and demanded "an exorbitant sum of money to make it go away." Cabinet members and administration officials learned of that threat Wednesday night, the official said.

However they were speaking on condition of anonymity, so who's to say that this is correct.
I'm sure this will provide lots of ammunition for the right wing.

I thought if you were from Camden you'd be a little tougher. Are you actually denying that Camden is the asshole of New Jersey and possibly the entire Eastern Sea Board?

there is no denying that fact. you can't even get drugs in camden that are worth a damn. and the fucking brickwork down admiral wilson is painted on, who's bright fucking idea was that?

could anyone point out for extra credit who was the last mayor of camden who did not actually get indicted? they're three for three in my memory.

And what's wrong about fighting WWII? Things seemed to work out there. Wow, a Democrat leads us into war and doesn't catch flak? My how times have changed.

It's a shitty world we live in. War cleans everything up.

We're fighting a demon bigger than Hitler now.

Back to talk about McGreevey.

Washington DC is the asshole of the Eastern Seaboard, and possibly the entire nation -- an entire city whose primary products are waste and war.

Actually, that's not a new accusation against FDR... and it was first investigated by Congress *DURING* the war. That, and the eight other congressional investigations of those allegations that followed over the intervening years have all concluded that are entirely without merit. Read up on the history of accusations like that before you fling them around, 'k?
