New Jersey Governor McGreevey Resigns

New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey, who has caught hell in the past for various state blunders, announced today that he is resigning because of a homosexual extramarrital affair.

His wife was by his side as he revealed his sexual preference and said that his gay relationship violated his marriage vows.

The now openly gay governor said that to stay in office after revealing today’s bombshell (be it his coming out or his extra-material affair) would only incite rumors and create an atmosphere of distrust. So he will resign Nov 15th, well after the next Presidential election.

Thanks to Cash for the link.

I'm glad he's resigning. Not for the reason that he's gay, but because he's the worst governor we've had since Jim Florio.

Whitman was good?

No, she just wasn't as much of an incompetent dirtbag as Florio or McGreevey.

the one good thing whitman did was her open space initiative.

as for McGreevy, I thought he would be resigning due to all of the fund raising scandals around him. This was a complete suprise.

You would think this man would have enough sense to figure out who he prefers fucking BEFORE getting married.

This is quite weird on so many levels. Can New Jersey EVER get someone in office who is not corrupt.

Does being a closeted married gay man who's forgiven by his wife and then publicly admits it all make him "corrupt," politically or otherwise?

He totally should've not went public with that. He must've been blackmailed by some republican. I'm certain he knows that his admission will not do any good for the view that typical Americans have of gay males.

Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups. And people wonder why there's such a divide in this country. The jump the gun attitude is what breeds misinformation.

There won't be an election for Gov. as a result of his resignation. The Lt. Gov. will fill in for him til his term runs out in January.

His term ends in Jan 06' if resigned earlier there would be an election. Because of the Nov. 15 deal it won't be that way.

I think there is more going on than just him being gay and his affair behind his resignation.

Let's make sure we all understand what has happened. He did not resign because he's gay. He resigned because an ex-staffer--who was male--was going to file harassment charges against him. In light of THAT happening, he decided to come clean about the harassment charges and--of course--come clean about his sexuality.

I applaud him for coming out. He's a prick for molesting someone. Both issues are theorhetically independant, but there is no way he could have resigned with harassment charges coming from a male staffer without immediately answering the sexuality quetsions.

There's no more fucked up an example of what politics can do than what has happened to this guy.

I feel as if he didn't have to resign. I mean, it seems like everyone is either gay or bissexual nowadays. If his wife can forgive him, I think New Jersey can.

Maybe where you live...

Ahh Camden!

People now say "Why should I go there?" instead of saying "Where the fuck is that place!"

There does appear to be a sexual harrassment scandal looming as well.
Oddly enough, the accuser appears to be Golan Cipel, the man McGreevey(with great controversy) appointed to be NJ's head of homeland security.

Cipel had no experience dealing with terrorism before he was appointed.
