New Jersey Governor McGreevey Resigns

New Jersey Gov. James E. McGreevey, who has caught hell in the past for various state blunders, announced today that he is resigning because of a homosexual extramarrital affair.

His wife was by his side as he revealed his sexual preference and said that his gay relationship violated his marriage vows.

The now openly gay governor said that to stay in office after revealing today’s bombshell (be it his coming out or his extra-material affair) would only incite rumors and create an atmosphere of distrust. So he will resign Nov 15th, well after the next Presidential election.

Thanks to Cash for the link.

I feel as if he didn't have to resign. I mean, it seems like everyone is either gay or bissexual nowadays. If his wife can forgive him, I think New Jersey can.

Damn you beat me to it...this is also linked to a possible sexual harrassment lawsuit. If he resigned now I think there would be an election fopr Gov...that's why he picked Nov.

He totally should've not went public with that. He must've been blackmailed by some republican. I'm certain he knows that his admission will not do any good for the view that typical Americans have of gay males.

Actually, I believe he's about to be sued for sexual harrassment by the former aide that he had the gay affair with. This sleeze bag tried to paint this situation in the best light he could, but this is an ugly story.

This is quite weird on so many levels. Can New Jersey EVER get someone in office who is not corrupt.

Politics there are actually worse than what's happening in New York.

I'm glad he's resigning. Not for the reason that he's gay, but because he's the worst governor we've had since Jim Florio.

I never said that.

Edited to add: Remember when Florio tried to put a tax on necessities like toilet paper? A handful of NJ Residents mailed toilet paper soiled with their feces to the governors mansion. My dad was one of them. That's why I used Florio as a reference. smile

i hope people don't dwell on the fact of him being gay...he was an awful awful governor. it was just a matter of time before he had to resign because of all the scandals that are being brought to the surface

There won't be an election for Gov. as a result of his resignation. The Lt. Gov. will fill in for him til his term runs out in January.

No, she just wasn't as much of an incompetent dirtbag as Florio or McGreevey.

This doesn't even scratch the surface.

The fact that this guy had an affair pales in comparison with the corruption in his office, and that's only the shit we know about.

This guy is no good, period. He should have saved himself the trouble and resigned without coming out of the closet.

Yes, and I'm quite sure you know all about the inner workings of the New Jersey state government being that you live in that hotbed of Trenton insider info, Los Angeles.
