Apple offers 9/11 Commission Hearings free of charge

According to an article on MacNN, Apple has made the entire hearings of the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (better known as the 9/11 Commission) available for download free of charge on their iTunes Music Store.

Everything from the initial introductory speeches to the final report is offered, 38 segments in all.

Though it is unlikely many people would be interested in listening to hours upon hours of dry testimony and prepared speeches by career politicians, there are some segments that would provide considerable insight into the current administration. Most notably would be the testimony of former counterterrorism adviser Richard Clark, whose unusually candid responses gave us shocking insight into our current administration's priorities pre-9/11. Also available is the testimony of National Security Advisor Condoleeza Rice.

Though the hearings have been available for some time, the Final Report was just recently added last Thursday. The executive summary of the report is still provided free of charge. However, the unabridged version, weighing in at almost 21 hours, will cost you $6.95.

That's awesome.

The link didn't work for me though. It opened iTunes and then threw an error. If you click on the Music Store link in iTunes, though, it's on the front page.

And they have a lot of speeches from the Democratic National Convention, and I've heard that the GOP conv. speeches will be there too, I think it's an AWESOME idea. People need to be involved!

the 'executive summary' (abridged version, 1 hr, 1 minute) is free. the unabridged version, which is 20 hours in length, is $6.95. but that is still a steal.

Nobody said it's not important, but few people will listen to 20 hours of anyone on any subject droning endlessly in bureaucratic gibberish.

Admirable, but not practical and most people will barely make it to the end.

Uh... that's why there's the one hour abridged version. One hour isn't too much to ask, especially since most people will spend more time watching "The Hilton Bachelor Survives a Fear Factory planned by Big Brother in the Real World."
