Democrat Wins Kentucky Special Election

Democrat Ben Chandler easily defeated Republican Alice Forgy Kerr in a special House election today, getting 55% of the vote to Kerr's 43% (the other 2% going to a Libertarian candidate.)

Despite running an aggressive, often negative campaign against Chandler that highlighted Kerr's support of George Bush, Kerr could not overcome Chandler's early lead in the polls.

This is the first time since 1991 that a Democrat has won a special election for a Congressional seat.

This is big news.
And it's not the only special election before November.
There's another contest coming up in which a Democrat can pick up a seat currently held by a Republican. That's the June 1st special election for South Dakota's single House seat. The Democrat is Stephanie Herseth.
If you're around South Dakota and want to get blood on your hands before the main event in November, then this a great contest to whet your appetite.

I thought rather than just repeating news from other places, that there (perhaps) might be some news that was created by the editor/this site. ??? My point is that anyone can do a news feed and this site has always been so groundbreaking... Let's mix the two.

Awesome!

Now, we're going to California and Texas and New York and we're going to South Dakota and Oregon and Washington and Michigan. And then we're going to Washington, D.C. to take back the White House!
Yeeaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!!!!

My understanding is that some of the other sections (music, culture, etc.) are working towards getting exclusive scoops and interviews, etc.

Politics is a bit more difficult for a few reasons, IMO. First - I'm not in DC, I'm in New York, so the best I could hope for would be to catch a conference or a visiting politician, or something at the UN, to get an exclusive story. Second - I think saying you're from suicidegirls.com actually would lend a measure of credibility in the music arena or some cultural arenas as well, and I'm afraid that wouldn't translate in the political arena. In fact, it could be something of a liability for getting an interview, as politicians are anathema to being associated with anything "scandalous" like naked girls.

However, if you have any suggestions as to ways that I (or other contributors) could try and get some exclusive political stories on our own, I'd be happy to hear them.
