Missouri Amends Constitution to Ban Gay Marriage.

Missouri has amended its Constitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman. 1,482,066 voted out of a population of 5,704,484 in favor of the amendment to the tune of a more than 2 to 1 majority.

As the first of seven states to vote on a gay marriage amendment, Missouri shows that discrimination is still alive and kicking in the U.S. and likely to gain legal sanction more places in the coming months.

That sucks. But it isn't very surprising. Getting that amendment off their Constitution ain't gonna be easy.

At least there's nothing to prevent civil unions from being legalized there and in other places that pass something similar.

It's on the ballot in Oregon to become illegal.. gay marriges that is. It broke Oregon's record for number of signatures to get somethign on a ballot.. they got over double the amount of signatures they needed. It's rather sickning to be honest.

My state sucks. Brought to you from the state that in downtown Kansas City you can still hear many locals refer to Martin Luther King Jr. Day as "nigger day". I apologize for Missouri.

We also voted to install some gigantic arena downtown that will cost us millions and will probably remain vacant for years because we haven't had any real plans made for it yet. Kansas City wants so badly to be taken seriously as a "real" city and I don't think that this is the way. Also, it will completely ruin the already shitty roads and transportation downtown.

I'd like to move to Portland soon, I've been thinking about it for a long time... anybody need a roommate? Please?

Vermont is for lovers!

by the way, i join the group who is appologizing for their wonderfully awful state, Missouri is probably one of the largest cesspools on earth, bigotry is so rampant here that i honestly fear certain areas of this town, whether it be racial, religious or sexually oriented hate, this town spreads it all

That is something I've been wanting to get straight on for awhile myself. Anybody know what's up with this?

Can I apologize, in advance, for my stinking cesspool of an ass-backards state?

We've got an amendment to the state constitution that would ban gay marriages coming up for a vote on September 18. It's likely going to pass with flying colors.

Louisiana ranks near the bottom of the list for literacy rates, has the highest infant mortality rate (not to mention highest rates of teen pregnancy and out-of-wedlock births), but hey-- who cares about that when the sanctity of marriage is being threatened by them homersexuals?

Edited to say: We might be competing with Mississippi and Arkansas for some of the above superlatives; I don't have the latest statistics on hand.

Well, to be fair, there are only 3,613,117 registered voters... still a pathetic showing, though.

It was interesting that they voted down some gambling law, too. At least in this case they're consistent with their conservative views.

Heaven forbid that democracy be allowed to function.

Nice to see the class/education level insults being thrown about.

After all, no RIGHT THINKING person could rationally hold views which are separate or different from your own.
