God Damn Reverend Wright

THURSDAY MAY 1 2008 6:00 AM

I am horrified by the words coming out of Reverend Wright’s mouth and the crazy things he believes. I tried to accept that he was misunderstood, or that he speaks for a culture that I may not understand, but this weekend he went to the National Press Club and explained his positions – to my utter dismay. How can any man believe such things? Especially a Reverend! It is astounding that any American would accept as true such outlandish ideas.

I cannot stand the idea that a future president would have ever gone to a church where the Reverend stood at the pulpit and uttered such insane phrases this...

The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government lied.

It is horrifying that any man in this day and age would hold onto such a viewpoint – and even more horrifying that he would preach it to his flock. Church is a place where we tell the truth... such as, Jesus died on the cross, was then buried, rose from the dead and now lives at the right hand of his Father, making intercession for the believers forever. That is what church is for, not to spew the make believe ideas that have no basis in fact. Who would believe such insane nonsense?

When Wright first became part of the primary story, he was quoted saying, “God Damn America.” What kind of nut believes God would damn America? We are a good and decent nation. I do not believe God will damn us, at least not the true believers, like myself, who are lucky to be living in the End Time, when the son of God will return, the righteous will enter heaven, and sinners will be condemned to eternal hellfire. As an American, I am offended to hear Wright’s hate speech and don’t understand how someone can believe such crazy things.

The time has come to openly question Barack Obama’s beliefs. After all, he did attend this man’s church for 20 years. Does Obama believe, as Wright said this week, that…

Louis Farrakhan is one of the most important voices in the 20th and 21st century.

It is incredibly hateful to hold a reckless anti-Semite, like Farrakhan, in such high-esteem. Wright believes in Farrakhan and Farrakhan believes the Jews are evil. As a good American, I cannot disagree more. We faithful fully support Israel because we believe the 1948 creation of the nation marked the first event in the "countdown to Armageddon.” The Jews must reside in the land of Israel for The End Times to occur, which is why we back Israel. So, obviously a good American cannot support the hate speech of Mr. Farrakhan.

We really must begin to question whether or not Barack Obama has the same values as Mr. Wright. Does Obama also believe that on 9/11 our “chickens were coming home to roost?” Such wild fantasies are completely unfounded and are greatly at odds with any normal American, who believes that after the Rapture nonbelievers left behind on earth will endure seven years of unspeakable suffering called the Great Tribulation, which will culminate in the rise of the Antichrist and the final battle of Armageddon between God and Satan. And that upon winning that battle, Christ will send all unbelievers into the pits of hellfire, re-green the planet, and reign on earth in peace with His followers for a millennium. I’m sorry, Mr. Wright, Americans are good people.

I seriously question whether or not Wright can hold onto widespread American beliefs and dispel such racist and hateful thoughts at the same time. Who is this man? And why is he such a good friend of Obama? I do not adhere to the disturbing beliefs of Reverend Wright and I don’t think most Americans do either.

So, Reverend Wright, you may take your insane ranting and leave America forever. We don’t want your kind here, especially because Jesus is coming back any day now to kill the homosexuals.

You "know." Really? How do you know? Any proof?

He/she's prescient.

I was betting on "the voices told me."

Try a little history. Why not look bad into the distant past like say 2004 or maybe even hey i don't know lets get crazy 2000.

In both cases (and in most presidential elections) there was a strong media bias in favor of who.....GW. Bush.

And if you want to get really crazy, go back further and you'll see consisent bias in favor of corporate candidates and typically greater favor for the republicans who tend to be the bigger corporate whores.

There are entire books on this (chomsky's manufacturing consent) sites dedicated to media bias (like one from columbia universities school of journalism.) Do yourself a favor look at them.

Obama has not been vetted until now. The media pined for him like they had a school crush on him.

You are misrepresenting or over-simplifying Chomsky. This is your opinion, plagued by it's own glaring naive perceptions. You talk of the media like it's one giant boogieman, when the reality of the situation is more complicated.

Hmm, now this is interesting. Just look at these poll numbers:

A new poll shows it's now a Hillary-Barack dead heat nationally, when only as recently as mid-March, Barack had a 52 percent to 45 percent lead over Hillary. So strange.

Another poll shows that Hillary now leads in North Carolina, when she was down 15 points in the same poll just two weeks ago. Hmm.

Another poll shows a ten point swing in hillary's favor since Nazi Wright -- who Barack has called his "spiritual advisor," and had a 20-year friendship with, and who married Barack and his wife, and who baptized their kids, and who Barack dedicated his book to, and who's friendship Wright said a year ago he knew Barack would have to distance himself from, and who Barack kept on his staff until as late as November, yet who Barack claims to barely know -- gave his speeches the other day:

Another shows that shows that Obama lost 24 points among men in Indiana, in only five days! Imagine that.

Well, it seems like the house of cards is finally collapsing for everybody's favorite America-hating, anti-Semitic, black nationalist, closet Muslim Barack. Too bad.

My heart goes out to those poor souls who voted for him or were planning to, because to have entertained such a futile dead-end must feel utterly dispiriting and soul-crushing.

Ah well. Look at the bright side. You can always retire to your parents' mansion basement where you live and listen to rap to sooth your battered sense of neurotic white guilt which is the only reason you wanted him to be president in the first place.

Plus I'm sure Hillary will make a fine plan B!

mec_nukka, please tell me how many honorary degrees have been bestowed on your for all your wonderful work doing community outreach?

Obama didn't cut all ties from his Pastor when the soundbite clips from much larger sermons, many of which even make sense within the context(crazy, isn't it), because he didn't believe that a few out-of-context soundbites represented a man's entire life and career. He also made it clear, oh I don't know, fifteen twenty times now, that just because a man is your friend, your pastor, your doctor or even on your staff, you don't have to agree with every single thing that they think or believe. Why is that there's nothing wrong with people of many different religions advising a candidate or a President or a C.E.O., but the assumption becomes that a man attends a church and therefore must share the same exact worldview of his Pastor and agree with everything he says? Should President Bush only be advised by top ranking Generals if they belong to his church and believe in his faith? I think Bush believes that, possibly, might help explain the last eight years.

Meanwhile, all your polling data is correct, I think you'd be hard pressed to find many people on this thread who don't think that the ongoing Wright scandal hurt will hurt Obama's campaign. Which, you'll note, is a very different argument than that it should hurt his campaign. Try and follow along, one is about recognizing reality(it will hurt the Obama Campaign), the other is offering opinion on the sorry state of our national discourse, and the issues that grab the most media attention. Which influence the polls, which is why everyone recognizes point one.
