Personally, I've never been in a church and heard this kind of shit. In a predominantly white or black church. Apparently I live in another America where blacks, whites, asian, and hispanics can all go to an assembly together and practice their faith without having to hear their pastors political views spewn from the pulpit as if it was the word of God.

I still don't get what the big deal is against the Rev. Yes, he was angry. Yes, he was blaming rich white people for many of the problems. Yes, he was saying that Clinton doesn't know what it is like to be activly oppressed.

And he was right, on all accounts. He is angry because the people in his neighborhoods, his friends and relatives and neighbors are being slowly destroyed by drugs sent into ghettos. He is angry because of unfair laws based on which form of cocaine is being used, and the difference in usage is divided along racial lines. He has every right to be angry.

The majority in the U.S. get angry when the topic of past presidents being slave owners comes up. They yell, "Consider the context of the time!" "Everyone with power was doing it!" "We can't impose our present mores on the past." "For the love of God, consider the context that slave owning presidents were living in!"

Then that topic gets shelved. Of course. Why focus on it anyway? There is nothing important or relevant about people in power oppressing people of color. That topic would only affect the lives and contexts of minorities (therefore it is not worth discussion).

The majority in the U.S. stand dumbfounded in disbelief or apathy when the topic of president Woodrow Wilson's overt racism comes up. They say, "That's not true." "I never heard that." "That's in the past (and therefore not important)." "What about the context of the time." "Everyone with power was overtly racist." "The historical context excuses and explains president Wilson's firing of people of color on the White House staff, public support of the KKK, proud membership in the KKK, enthusiastic public praise of the 'historical accuracy' of the racist film, The Birth of a Nation, and unnecessary active military intervention in Latin America."

The majority culture gives the same free pass to the other presidents that FearTheReaper described above. It is thought, hey, these presidents only supported the oppression of minorities. Why does it matter to the majority? Therefore, why does it matter at all?

Now, here comes Rev. Wright and majority culture can't dismiss context fast enough. They ignore and forget the racist context of Wright's upbringing (U.S. legal segregation, Tuskegee experiments, Katrina, African Apartheid, crack epidemic, etc.) Instead, they say, "There is no context for these words, feelings, and opinions!" "He is talking angrily about the majority's historical and present oppression of minorities, this can not be tolerated. "How dare he be hurt and angry over racism!" "Racism ended so long ago and there was a historical context that excuses racism and that can't be ignored." "We can not have a president that is hurt by the majority's wrongdoings." "We can not have a president who is associated with an 'angry Field Negro.'"

And unfortunately, the fear "what if this country's chickens really do come home to roost?" rings so loudly in the majority's ears that they can't even hear Obama denounce Wright's comments, emphasize with the majority's unspoken fears, and provide education on oppression's hurtfulness to the world and to the upcoming generations.
