Insurance for poor kids: thirteen votes short.

Representative James E. Clyburn of South Carolina, the Democratic whip, parodied what the president has said about the campaign against terrorism. “You’re either for American children or you’re not,” Mr. Clyburn said. “It’s just that simple.”

No, it is not, said Representative Greg Walden, Republican of Oregon. He said he wonders if the government could pay for the S-chip program as embodied in the bill. “I spent 21 years in small business,” he said. “I never signed a contract I couldn’t keep my word on.”

Let's have a look at Representative Walden's voting record, shall we?

  • Voted NO on redeploying US troops out of Iraq starting in 90 days.
  • Voted YES on declaring Iraq part of War on Terror with no exit date.
  • Voted YES on approving removal of Saddam & valiant service of US troops.
  • Voted YES on authorizing military force in Iraq.

  • Voted YES on replacing illegal export tax breaks with $140B in new breaks
  • Voted YES on more prosecution and sentencing for juvenile crime
  • Voted YES on military border patrols to battle drugs & terrorism
  • Voted NO on removing oil & gas exploration subsidies
  • Voted YES on establishing nationwide AMBER alert system for missing kids
  • Voted YES on reducing Marriage Tax by $399B over 10 years (i.e., reducing government revenue)
  • Voted YES on reforming the UN by restricting US funding
  • Voted YES on withholding $244M in UN Back Payments until US seat restored (so much for contracts)
  • Voted YES on $15.2 billion for foreign operations
  • Voted YES on $266 billion Defense Appropriations bill
  • Voted YES on building a fence along the Mexican border
  • Voted YES on $167B over 10 years for farm price supports
  • Voted YES on retaining reduced taxes on capital gains & dividends
  • Voted YES on making permanent an increase in the child tax credit
  • Voted YES on permanently eliminating the marriage penalty

It freaks me out a lot that major decisions in this country of over 300 million people comes down to 14 people. I know it's not that simple, but it's still a really spooky thought.

Just for fun, that's 0.00000465% of the population. Yay democracy!

don't forget the giant novelty check for more tax breaks that they'll wave under the noses of their constituents and the 527 ads warning UPN (or whatever they are called now that they merged with WB) viewers that the democrats will outlaw the bible, paper money and vehicles older than ten years old.

Even scarier is that those people have 0.0000000000184% of the nation's total capacity for rational thought

He said he never "signed a contract he couldn't keep his word on" but has consistently voted to expand programs and reduce taxes.

In short he is full of shit.

So you get that?

How will the kids ever learn a lesson if they don't stay missing?

Now that the political posturing (which is all this really was) is over, let's see if the politicians can work out a sensible compromise. I'm not counting on it.

It implies that he's willing to spend money for stuff that he considers a priority. Which obviously doesn't include health care for kids.

I always thought the first rule of business is to make more than you spend. And if you are temporarily spending more than you make, it had better be that deficit should be facilitating making more money in the future.

So what im saying is that if he lasted 20 years in small business, he must have plowed through a large fortune.

I would consider it a point of pride to be declared the Number On Threat To America by the Republican party.
