Speaking of derogetory terms: to my gay friends: can we get the definition of the word faggot changed to mean repressed republican? We don't have to tell them, and then we can snicker to ourselves whenever someone slips and uses the term in public.

I think it's silly to make this into a story of right vs. left instead of what it really is, right vs. wrong. What the real issue should be is the vast corruption inside the political machine of Washington, both on the left and the right.

As a Republican, and a true Conservative--that is, someone who believes in the preservation of American values, such as the separation of church and state--I know that being gay isn't a sin; and I'm disgusted when politicians demonize one of their own for homosexuality as a way to pander to their constituents. What they forget is that those who demonize homosexuality are probably going to be voting along party lines anyway and are not the ones who need the pandering.

The lost constituents are ones like me, who know that there are more important issues than a politician looking for love in all the wrong places, and who know that there are certain beliefs and practices--such as the belief of homosexuality as a sin--that are archaic and belong nowhere near the political sphere. The real issue is that of American politics slowly shying away from the way it's supposed to be--the rule of the people--Vitter being a good example of such corruption of power.

But let's not forget the corruption occurs on both sides of the fence--modern Republicans and modern Democrats are both equally guilty of bastardizing the principles for which each party once stood. The entire system needs an overhauling, and it starts with people everywhere getting educated.

Usually they get shouted down pretty quickly, though. We have our own fair share of partisan loudmouths, after all.

I'm not disagreeing with statement 2, but I don't recall all that much evidence for statement 1. Often they just got dejected (knowing that more or less everything Bush was doing was more or less indefensible) and moved on.

Pay closer attention. I've watched it happen, often from people who really should know better.

Man, FUCK DAVID VITTER! That fucking douche did so many backwards and bigoted things when I lived in Louisiana. And, although I don't think tapping your foot in a men's bathroom or proposing any sort of gay sex is wrong, I do think Craig is just as big a douche. He's been such a huge anti-gay voice in the government. What a flippin' hypocrite!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem was that it was in a public restroom in the middle of an international airport--so no, gay sex is not a crime, but public lewdness is, and that would probably include attempts to initiate sex in a public place (regardless of the gender of either/any of the participants). Apparently that particular bathroom had a fairly notable lewdness problem, so the airport police were working on cleaning things up a bit when poor Mr. Craig and his wide, wide pissing stance wandered in.

It might seem petty, in some ways, but as was discussed in the thread on that particular news item, would you want to bring your son into such a bathroom (or let him go in by himself) if you knew people were fucking in there on a regular basis? Probably not so much.
