Republican Senator Taps His Gay Foot Near Cop!

In what may be the lamest sex scandal of all time, Senator Larry Craig of Idaho, was arrested in June by a Minneapolis airport cop for “disorderly conduct.” The undercover officer thought Craig was sending signals indicating he was looking for sex in an airport bathroom. Man on man sex. Craig pleaded guilty, paid a $575 fine and was put on probation for one year. The details of the arrest are amazingly retarded.

The bathroom is apparently known as a place where fellas go to have sex with other fellas. Airport police were conducting a sting and had made “numerous arrests” before they bagged the Senator. The police report is both pathetic and weird.

First the report says that Craig entered a stall next to the policeman and put his luggage against the door. The officer claimed that is what gay men do.

My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall.

Right! That is exactly what gay men do. Also, I do it because men usually pee on the floor around the toilet and I don’t want my luggage to smell like urine.

At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot, which was within my stall area.

Anyone else getting a boner at this point? This is some awesome literary porn.

Next Craig “swiped his hand beneath the stall divider several times.” That was enough for the law. The cop showed his ID. Craig was not pleased.

With my left hand near the floor, I pointed towards the exit. Craig responded, 'No!'

At the airport police station, Craig tried to explain the situation.

Craig…told police he has a "wide stance" in the bathroom and reached down to pick up a piece of paper from the floor.

Honest enough. When I shit I usually spread my legs at 90-degree angles, but I am also a lizard. Craig was released after 45 minutes and he went on his way. Poor guy must have thought he got away with it, until someone leaked it to Roll Call yesterday.

This is one of the creepiest arrests I have ever heard of. I know gays are targeted all the time with shit like this, but the details are disturbing. How tapping your foot would ever hold up in court as lewd behavior is beyond me. The purpose of stings like this one, are to scare men with public exposure and hope they take a guilty plea. Looks pretty effective.

Even more disturbing is a story in today’s Idaho Statesman detailing a five-month investigation into Craig’s alleged homosexuality. The paper interviewed over 300 people, who knew Craig from his boyhood days, through his time in DC. Over all that time reporters found one man who said he had sex with Craig and two who said Craig hit on them. Should we burn Craig at the stake now or tomorrow?

People have had suspicions about Craig since 1982 when he made a very unwise political move. A Congressional page was claiming three Congressmen had sex with pages. Newspapers questioned Craig, just as they questioned every Congressman. A reporter who was working in DC at the time explained how Craig brought heat down on himself.

It was simply an inquiry: ‘Have you heard anything? Who have you heard about? Have you heard any names mentioned? What's your reaction to this news?'

"The next thing I know, Larry Craig has issued a press release: ‘This isn't me.' Which I just thought was a bizarre and ultimately very foolish thing to do.

"He was the only person going on the record anywhere. And of course, when you do that, it's like raw meat. He's saying, ‘Nobody's actually accusing, but it wasn't me!' It's no wonder it's dogged him. He denied something that no one had accused him of."

Fair enough. Dude might be gay. But a five month investigation? Nice use of your resources during this time of war and massive corruption. I don’t expect much from Idaho, but this is a new low.

Craig does have a record of voting against gay rights. In 2006 he supported a State amendment that bars gay marriage and civil unions. He also supported an amendment to the US Constitution in 2004 to ban gay marriage. Craig is against extending civil rights protection to gays in the workplace and opposes allowing homosexuals in the military. So, clearly the man would be a hypocrite if he were exposed as a gay man.

But launching a five month investigation and arresting him in a bathroom stall for tapping his foot has swung me over to his side. Leave the dude the fuck alone. The newspaper went as far as to interview Craig in front of his wife, where a tape was played of a man claiming he had sex with the Senator.

Suzanne Craig's eyes reddened and filled with tears as she listened. After her husband's denial, she said, "I'm incensed that you would even consider such a piece of trash as a credible source."

To which Craig added, "Jiminy God!"

Jiminy God? Okay, that is pretty gay.

Well, unfortunately, looks like he's resigning.

AP is reporting that tomorrow, Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) will announce whether or not he intends to resign. "Idaho Gov. C.L. 'Butch' Otter already appears to have settled on a successor - Lt. Gov. Jim Risch, according to several Republicans familiar with internal deliberations."

Let me post AROUND the issue a wee bit.

Why anonymous sex with strangers? Could have a bit to do with the shame society associates with homosexuality. But honestly, I think thats way less of a reason than the fact that homosexual males have sex with other males.

It's the same reason the public tends to have that much more disdain for gay men than with lesbians. Women are seen as the dam that holds back the tide of wanton whatever that "all men want."

We're disturbed (and perhaps a bit jealous) that two individuals who always want sex have one another to always get it from.

Many homosexuals are monogamous. And many heteros have anonymous sex with strangers. I think it had more to do with the fact he was cheating on his wife.

ASSH0LE is specifically addressing the issue of anonymous gay sex. Gay monogamy, and heterosexual anonymous hookups, are actually offtopic here.

My understanding is that heterosexual anonymous sex is pretty different from gay anonymous sex. There is no straight equivalent of the bath house scene (at least not one that doesn't involve rohypnol or something), and girls don't wander around parks at night hoping to have sex with random guys in bushes (unless there's an exchange of money involved).

Those are both legacies of the closet, really, for all that they've been claimed for liberation, too. And they're used to advantage by the closeted.

It could just be that two women gettin' it on seems sexy (to men and to many women), whereas a couple of guys doesn't.

That's not always true, and in any event yaoi isn't entirely unpopular with women. It seems to me that the more pertinent consideration is an atavistic primate social instinct that equates penetration with social hierarchy. A man who is penetrated is ceding dominance to the penetrator, and therefore become less respectable and more feminine. It violates the instinctive rules of masculinity.

Understand, I'm not saying I agree with that - I think it's an idiotic attitude more suited to gorillas than to humans. But there are a lot of humans out there who have a little too much in common with gorillas, frankly.

Always? Man, I hate to disillusion you, but ...

Uh, yes. Always. That's what gay cruising is all about.

I was addressing the general societal mentality with regard to what seems or doesn't seem sexy. There are always exceptions.

The "general societal mentality" with regard to what seems sexy is largely defined by what seems sexy to heterosexual men.

bald_eagle said:
Anonymous heterosexual contact is more prevalent than that, I think. Spring break, bars ...

I was taking that into account. It's still nothing approaching the same level. Seriously.

I mean, I don't want to give you the impression that all gay men are into the cruising scene. I'm not even sure a majority are (I'd have to check figures and get back to you). But within that scene, sexual activity is far, far more anonymous and constant than in any comparable straight scene - again, that doesn't involve some kind of exchange of money.

And cruising - or paying - is definitely favored by the closet cases, because it means they can keep their sexuality securely walled off from the rest of their lives.

And I thought perhaps the two-people-always thing was meant to refer to married folks. That's why I was suggesting inaccuracy.

Oh. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it refers to the gay cruising scene.

NYTimes has a good article/column on "America's Toe-Tapping Menace" - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/02/opinion/02macdonald.html?th&emc=th

I like the sentiment it ends on:
"And for our part, let's stop being so surprised when we discover that our public figures have their own complex sex lives, and start being more suspicious when they self-righteously denounce the sex lives of others."

Thanks for posting that article; very interesting, and this quote
