Republican Senator Taps His Gay Foot Near Cop!

In what may be the lamest sex scandal of all time, Senator Larry Craig of Idaho, was arrested in June by a Minneapolis airport cop for “disorderly conduct.” The undercover officer thought Craig was sending signals indicating he was looking for sex in an airport bathroom. Man on man sex. Craig pleaded guilty, paid a $575 fine and was put on probation for one year. The details of the arrest are amazingly retarded.

The bathroom is apparently known as a place where fellas go to have sex with other fellas. Airport police were conducting a sting and had made “numerous arrests” before they bagged the Senator. The police report is both pathetic and weird.

First the report says that Craig entered a stall next to the policeman and put his luggage against the door. The officer claimed that is what gay men do.

My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall.

Right! That is exactly what gay men do. Also, I do it because men usually pee on the floor around the toilet and I don’t want my luggage to smell like urine.

At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot, which was within my stall area.

Anyone else getting a boner at this point? This is some awesome literary porn.

Next Craig “swiped his hand beneath the stall divider several times.” That was enough for the law. The cop showed his ID. Craig was not pleased.

With my left hand near the floor, I pointed towards the exit. Craig responded, 'No!'

At the airport police station, Craig tried to explain the situation.

Craig…told police he has a "wide stance" in the bathroom and reached down to pick up a piece of paper from the floor.

Honest enough. When I shit I usually spread my legs at 90-degree angles, but I am also a lizard. Craig was released after 45 minutes and he went on his way. Poor guy must have thought he got away with it, until someone leaked it to Roll Call yesterday.

This is one of the creepiest arrests I have ever heard of. I know gays are targeted all the time with shit like this, but the details are disturbing. How tapping your foot would ever hold up in court as lewd behavior is beyond me. The purpose of stings like this one, are to scare men with public exposure and hope they take a guilty plea. Looks pretty effective.

Even more disturbing is a story in today’s Idaho Statesman detailing a five-month investigation into Craig’s alleged homosexuality. The paper interviewed over 300 people, who knew Craig from his boyhood days, through his time in DC. Over all that time reporters found one man who said he had sex with Craig and two who said Craig hit on them. Should we burn Craig at the stake now or tomorrow?

People have had suspicions about Craig since 1982 when he made a very unwise political move. A Congressional page was claiming three Congressmen had sex with pages. Newspapers questioned Craig, just as they questioned every Congressman. A reporter who was working in DC at the time explained how Craig brought heat down on himself.

It was simply an inquiry: ‘Have you heard anything? Who have you heard about? Have you heard any names mentioned? What's your reaction to this news?'

"The next thing I know, Larry Craig has issued a press release: ‘This isn't me.' Which I just thought was a bizarre and ultimately very foolish thing to do.

"He was the only person going on the record anywhere. And of course, when you do that, it's like raw meat. He's saying, ‘Nobody's actually accusing, but it wasn't me!' It's no wonder it's dogged him. He denied something that no one had accused him of."

Fair enough. Dude might be gay. But a five month investigation? Nice use of your resources during this time of war and massive corruption. I don’t expect much from Idaho, but this is a new low.

Craig does have a record of voting against gay rights. In 2006 he supported a State amendment that bars gay marriage and civil unions. He also supported an amendment to the US Constitution in 2004 to ban gay marriage. Craig is against extending civil rights protection to gays in the workplace and opposes allowing homosexuals in the military. So, clearly the man would be a hypocrite if he were exposed as a gay man.

But launching a five month investigation and arresting him in a bathroom stall for tapping his foot has swung me over to his side. Leave the dude the fuck alone. The newspaper went as far as to interview Craig in front of his wife, where a tape was played of a man claiming he had sex with the Senator.

Suzanne Craig's eyes reddened and filled with tears as she listened. After her husband's denial, she said, "I'm incensed that you would even consider such a piece of trash as a credible source."

To which Craig added, "Jiminy God!"

Jiminy God? Okay, that is pretty gay.

Well, chum, I'm going to continue to take issue with your manufactured indignation and your lack of cogent rebuttal.

There is a difference between a "cogent rebuttal" (hey, you're a lawyer!) and coming up with something that a narcissist will accept as reasonable.

And God willing, you'll learn it someday. Here's a hint, it probably includes an explication of why you think it's disgusting and irrelevant, not merely that you think it's disgusting and irrelevant.

Somewhere in there you should probably also include a plausible explanation as to why a powerful public figure got docketed for court on an indecency charge and no one noticed. When a City Council member gets pulled over for speeding here it makes the paper, you're going to tell me that Idaho and Minneapolis have too much other newsworthy shit going on to have a crime and court reporter?

Read the article, dipshit.

As far as your second point, I purposefully avoided the abuse of power angle as it has little to do with the topic at hand. Tangental bullshit from a lawyer, nothing else.

Why, did you write another one that actually addressed my points? I only caught the one where you ignored all of the salient reasons that it might be relevant and newsworthy. Oh, and I learned you shit like a lizard.

As opposed to the ravingly relevant aside about how poor homosexuals are targeted for sucking dick in public? They're not being targeted for being gay, Mr. Murrow, they're targeted for doing things that most homosexuals themselves find inappropriate and gross, and, well, is rather illegal. Gay rights, to the extent that they are, are protected under the penumbra of privacy if you'll recall.

Even more disturbing is the fact that these people are investigating one another's alleged homosexuality. Seriously....when can we just get the fuck over these things? I'm not even gay and that pisses me off...for fucks sake...

i'm not terribly sad for him because of the hypocrisy involved, but i do think it's a silly way to out someone. do the police really have nothing better to do than run sting operations to catch guys having sex in airport bathrooms?

I wouldn't want to send my kid into a public restroom where there was a pretty good chance he could end up seeing people fucking. I'm not a prude or anything, but I'd be really pissed off if some dude tried to play footsies with my kid in the bathroom, mistaking him for another adult male. Just like I'd be pissed off if some scumbag came up to him in the parking lot of my complex trying to sell drugs to him. If it is a big enough problem, it needs to be taken care of.

Exactly.

He wasn't arrested for being gay (or not being gay but seeming gay--I don't care whether he's gay) or wanting sex or anything like that. He was arrested for being lewd and creepy in a public space. Making unwanted contact with someone in a public bathroom is lewd and creepy, period.

well, i like my public restrooms sex-free too, i guess i'm just skeptical about how big this problem actually is.

I guess the problem was big enough:

Karsnia [the cop--name is actually Karsniat] was in the restroom as part of a sting operation to clamp down on lewd behavior. The restroom where Craig was arrested is well known among men who seek sex in public places.

Squirt.org is a site that runs a bulletin board for such men. "If you enter from the terminal, turn left and go past wash basins, urinals to the back where the stalls are. This place is THE most cruisy public place I have been," wrote one poster. "Just passed thru here the other day. This place is so hot. This place has a constant flow and variety of hot guys," wrote another. Even another poster wrote, "This is the best spot for anonymous action I've ever seen." Of all the postings in Minnesota, the airport restroom was ranked the top by that website.

The site, Squirt.org, lists how to get there: "Across from Food Court. Go through security to main Mezzanine where main shopping is located. Look for Starbucks Coffee stand and Men's Room is across from there," what to expect: "Very cruisy, no security cameras or guards. Most of the time, men will show themselves to you at the urinals and invite into stalls or nearby hotels. Plenty of dark stall action, too!Update: No one is permitted beyond the security checkpoints without an airline ticket now," and some of the biggest pet peeves: "Stall hoggers! Get off and get out! Cleaning crews may be overly curious, but won't interfere."

Like DhD_PillowPants mentioned, I probably wouldn't be too keen on bringing my kid into what's apparently been ranked by some as the hottest anonymous sex locale for men in the state.

It's not illegal to have gay sex in Minneapolis, but it is illegal to be lewd in public--and RileyStClair, I know you know that and that's not what you were saying, but I wanted to mention it not in relation to your comment necessarily but because I'm just a little confused by the tone of this article. I don't see how the arrest in and of itself has all that much to do with anyone being gay. It has to do with maintaining the safety and non-creepiness of a public space. Whether or not this guy is gay and whether or not other people think he is really doesn't have much practical effect on the situation of him being a creep in a Minneapolis restroom. I think the cop took appropriate action, especially in the context of trying to deal with a repeated problem in that location.

And as a side note, if I were that officer and, while questioning the dude, he[URL]:

handed the arresting officer a business card that identified him as a U.S. senator and said, "What do you think about that?"

I would have been thrilled out of my mind to arrest him. Absolutely thrilled.
