The Republican Candidates Are Sad Little Turds

The big news from this weekend’s Iowa straw poll was how little the voting public thinks of the current crop of Republican candidates. Ten thousand fewer Republicans cast votes for this group of candidates than they did for the 2000 candidates. “None of the above” is consistently winning in Republican polls. The reason is simple: Every Republican candidate has some horrible quality that makes them unelectable to the base.

Rudy Giuliani won’t win the nomination because he is pro-abortion and has an ugly marital history. He is twice divorced, once marrying a cousin and another time living through a nasty public separation while Mayor of New York.

27% of Republican voters see Giuliani as politically conservative, while 68% say moderate or liberal.

There is no way Giuliani will win a Republican nomination with the current state of religious lunacy that has a hold over the party. Sorry, loser, you’re out.

Fred Thompson is the newest of the candidates who has absolutely no chance. Freddy also has a problem with his abortion loving past. He was a lobbyist for a pro-choice group, which may actually be worse than being ideologically against abortion.

22% have an unfavorable view of Thompson.

Watch that number shoot up when he actually joins the race and Republicans get a look at his abortion record. Sorry, actor boy, you’re gone.

Mitt Romney is such a poor candidate for the Republican ticket that it is astounding. He has spent loads of money and is only polling in third place.

31% of Republican Voters have an unfavorable opinion of him.

Why? He’s a Mormon. Game over.

John McCain is old and shockingly pathetic. He attached himself to Bush’s surge and took a walk through the streets of Iraq surrounded by helicopters and soldiers. That was the day his campaign ended.

Within his own party, McCain is viewed favorably 54% and unfavorably by 40%.

He is also considered to be a "moderate" turncoat by many Republicans. Good night, grandpa.

An August 5th Rasmussen poll has Giuliani on top. (None of the above was not given as an option)

Giuliani 25%
Thompson 24%
Romney 14%
McCain 11%
Mike Huckabee 3%
Sam Brownback 2%
Ron Paul, Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo are just tiny blips of nothingness.

Republicans need a viable candidate to step in and take over this mess or the masses are going to vote for No One to face the Democratic opponent.

Frankly, I think you'd be better served monitoring your own side of the aisle, and covering the lightweights in the Democratic race. mad

I'm not a Democrat. And fuck off.

Uh, FTR, don't you know it doesn't work like that? If you disagree with Republicans, it means you are a Democrat. Which is why you haven't written any Fuck Clinton or Fuck Al Gore articles. Or any other Democrats. Ever. *Cough*

Fuck Off? That's the best you can do? (aside from all those who chose to mock my grammar) Thanks to the member who posted the News FAQ. Maybe I will just post my own news stories then. In the meantime, check this out before you get too sure about Hillary's prospects.

Clinton a Drag? http://apnews.myway.com/article/20070812/D8QVK9501.html

I should have said that you are insane. Holy shit, you are actually a cartoon Republican. WHO ON THIS BOARD BROUGHT UP HILLARY CLINTON?

This is textbook Republican lunacy. This topic is not about Clinton. It is about how poor the Republican candidates are. You are handling this situation like a giant retarded baby.

Alright, now that graphicsman has been skooled enuf, I have a question for FTR.

Any ideas about the viable candidate to step in and take over the mess?

The Republican candidates always seem terrible and unelectable to me. I distinctly recall thinking that nobody in his/her right mind was going to vote for our currently selected shitbag. To make things worse, I did this twice. My mind is clearly not calibrated to Republican elect-ability.

Whaddya think FTR, who's the dark horse?

Republican ticket: Hagel and Huckabee

That's my thought as well. If Hagel runs.

Here's one bashing the democrats

And some Hillary bashing!

And those are just recent ones. Mop up your sad little butt-hurt tears and get over it.

and yet, both of these articles are aimed at conservatives at the core. The democrats are BAD in one article because they don't stand up to BUSH. (which is oddly all they have done)

and Hillary is bad for handing out with Rupert Murdoch, of Fox news fame. Where's the article asking whether or not Rove is going to get the same kind of cushy anchor job that Stephenopolous has? Or the one wondering when Sandy Berger will go to jail for stealing and destroying documents from the archives? (which makes the whole Scooter Libby thing laughable to me)

I think the FTR is wrong about the candidates, however (getting to the actual topic)....and that in the end the big names will still be around. When the primary elections are done, I think that Hillary will be the nominee...and I think that enough people will vote against her, to elect whomever is chosen on the republican side. All I can say is...(anyone but McCain)

Okay....I apologize for flying off the handle. (especially about a straw poll that cost $35 to even vote in)

You are as entitled to your views as anyone else, and while they may differ from mine, they have certainly provided a vehicle for useful discussion.

Hagel has apparently raised next to no money (even for his Senate re-election campaign) and the first round of GOP primaries is five months away.

Even if you assume Hagel's criticism of Bush Jr. won't alienate him from the 60% or so of GOP voters who actually still support Shrub, Hagel's going to have to start robbing banks or seducing Mike Bloomberg in order to fund a real campaign.

Hagel's comments on Iraq and his very public break with the party make him very unlikely in my book. But, if he were to leave the party....perhaps he and Bloomberg might gain some traction. With whom? I dunno. I think it's too early to tell for sure. You remember at this point in the campaign in 91, Clinton wasn't even a blip on radar. So, it could end up to be Huckabee and Romney.

It's rather mean-spirited to keep poking at a man after he's apologized.

I kind of agree with graphicsman. And graphicsman, in case haven't read many past SG articles, here's a synopsis of what you've missed. It's also what you can expect from every future article.
America is bad
Republicans are bad.
Conservatives are bad
Religion is bad

Freedom is good, but only if it subscribes to your point of view. All other views will be deemed stupid and/or archaic.
Gay people are good, and should be allowed to murder with impunity.
And George Bush is our finest leader ever. Hehe, Just kidding. Of course he falls under the bad stuff.
There, I said it.
