Children Learn How To Be Afraid Of Dying

The Virginia Tech massacre has school administrators across the country on edge. The staff at Scales Elementary School in Tennessee decided the children should share in their horrible fear and staged a mock attack on Thursday night. The sixth graders apparently feared for their lives, so the exercise can be considered a success.

Assistant Principal Don Bartch said his staff discussed what they would do in a real life situation. On Thursday the school was taking students on a weeklong trip to a state park and decided it would be a terrific location for a mock attack.

On the final night staff told the kids that a crazy gunman was on the loose. Staff said it was not a drill and ordered the kids to stay quiet, hide under furniture or to lie on the floor. Another teacher dressed in a hooded sweatshirt and pulled on the locked door. The kids cried as they waited to die. The “attack” lasted five minutes.

“At first I thought I was going to die. We flipped out.”

Nope, it’s a learning experience! Isn’t school fun? Now go to bed and get some sleep.

Parents are apparently upset that their kids were taught how to lie on the floor and cry.

“The children were in that room in the dark, begging for their lives, because they thought there was someone with a gun after them,” said Brandy Cole, whose son went on the trip.

This kind of stuff makes me really miss being a kid and hiding from fake child molesters. Oh, wait, I went to a Catholic school, they were real.

You and the loon who started this thread belong together. Look at my quote...do you see anywhere that I said I didn't understand what he wrote? Of course not...he writes poorly...but only at about a sixth grade level (which is why you can understand it, I assume). I asked him to put the primary content toward the top of the article, like any well-written news article should be written. That way I don't have to wade through as much of his other nonsense to quckly pick up the gist of the article since (like with this one) his stupid headlines never convey the true meaning.

ZOMG the news on a porn site is not written like the Times! stop the presses!

nope - but you have said that you would like schools to be a gun possible zone. and in fact here is a thread about gun control/VT where you blaitently implied that if a school allowed it, a school shooting would have never occurred. (even implied high school once in there)

plus with the current gun laws as they are, its been proven that even a 10 month old law abiding baby can own/operate/and transport a weapon.

because its true. and to prove it - here is conservative FOX NEWS on the gun/baby issue. and here is a link where you first put up an anti-semitic web site by accident/ignorance (because you may have not read it all the way through or understood it) and it also shows your advocation for guns in high schools and colleges

show me this 10 month old that is currently operating or transporting a weapon

yes, i do do think it's silly that lawful ADULTS who are authorized to be on high school property and are authorized to cary a weapon on almost all other public property are not allowed to cary one to work with them if they work at / attend a high school or a college but that is a far cry from claiming that they would stop a school shooting from occurring. it is also a far cry from claiming that kids should be given guns. why do you need to twist my words around to discredit them?

yea, and? all this shows is that a man has some card with his sons picture on it and guess what? his 10 month old has a clean criminal record. who would have guessed? considering the increasing numbers of baby criminals on the loose!

a FOID card holder can carry, operate, and transport a gun. Thats not what im concerned about. im concerned about age. and as i surmised - you dont seem to be. thus leading to my next statement...

the first statement is a mocking jab. if you pay attention to the sentence structure; the operative words are "comes in and says something along the lines of". this marks it as humor and not fact.

and in the second statement, yes; i am afraid you did suggest that guns on campus would negate school shootings....bringing us back to the first statement and the intended humorous effect bok

Your being a bit unfair to Fuckfuck. Tho he may have said that the presense of weapons on campuses would have at least allowed people to have a chance to defend themselves I don't remember him ever saying it would totally eliminate stupid people from trying something like VT. That being said tho this is clearly an isue of the law being written poorly probably because when it was written no one ever imagined that a 10 month old would be applying for one of these permits. Not to mention really it's a non issue of sorts. Has anyone been harmed? Were any laws broken? smile

Here's another idea: Don't read my articles dumbshit. That's how you avoid something that annoys you, you don't read it.

The article seems to be easily understood by everyone else.

Yeah, it says exactly what I said...I have to read more than I want to before he gets to the point. I stand corrected, I guess you only got to 4th grade.

^^ back to the NEWS wink

Is this the modern equivalent of a Disastor or Fire Drill?

WIthout being there it is hard to criticize because one very valid way to help heal fears and trauma in children is to give them a guided opportunity to develop solutions to the problem so that they feel less powerless.

still.... i am picturing some bad laser tag scenario gone all wrong
and wondering if this exercise is not a source of trauma?
