Libby Convicted! Can We Pardon Him Already?

Time to start you betting pools. When does “Scooter” Libby get a pardon from George W. Bush? It’s the important question to ask today because Scooter was just convicted of 4 of 5 counts in his perjury and obstruction of justice trial.

Libby was convicted of:

Obstruction of justice when he intentionally deceived a grand jury investigating the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame;

Making a false statement by intentionally lying to FBI agents about a conversation with NBC newsman Tim Russert;

Perjury when he lied in court about his conversation with Russert;

A second count of perjury when he lied in court about conversations with other reporters.

Scooter was cleared on another count of making a false statement. The maximum sentence is 25 years in prison and a fine of $1 million.

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said, "He is virtually certain to go to prison if this conviction is upheld."

What a fucking shame.

According to reporters, Fitzgerald has wrapped up the case and there will be no further prosecutions. Some had speculated the prosecutor would be going after Cheney next because Fitzgerald said, “there is a dark cloud over the Vice President” in his closing argument. But, it's not going to happen.

So, enjoy this brief period of justice and get ready for a pardon!

I very strongly suspect that this was a Show Trial, choreographed and orchestrated to officially "close" the case without involving Cheney, Rove, Bush, et. al.

I'm not at all surprised Cheney isn't being pursued. Libby's a sacrificial lamb, but Ima throw my hat into the pardon pool by giving it two weeks. ARRR!!!

Hopefully Hillary Clinton will recommend to Bush that it's much easier to have Libby killed in prison.

Fuck Rove, I'm pissed that God hasn't seen fit to take Libby's boss back to his heavenly home.

I could tolerate the 2 weeks of fawning news coverage, if I knew we really didn't have to deal with him anymore.

But there is a significant minority of people who believe that Cheney is undead.

They may have something.

The AP said Libby showed no emotion to the verdict and acted nonchalant. Yah, because he knows nothing is going to happen.

Is there really anybody that gives a fuck about this story?
Apparently he lied about something that would not a crime to begin with? Stupid on his part.
If he's pardoned, fine. If not, ok, too.
I imagine it's actually more likely that the conviction is overturned on appeal. I doubt there will be any pardon until after appeals are exhausted.
That whole investigation was absolutely worthless.
