Time To Rid America Of The Scourge Known As Divorce

As a good Christian country, we have been fighting a valiant effort against the nightmare of gay marriage. To date many states have passed laws against same sex marriage and our children are safer because of it. But now we must look to the next battle that God wants us to fight: Ending divorce.

The first battleground will be Virginia. Last year the state passed a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage and now the Family Foundation of Virginia will use its influence to change the state's divorce laws to make it more difficult for parents to end their marriage. Halleluiah.

The current law allows for a husband and wife to just end their marriage without any cause. They can actually just look at each other and say, “I don’t want to do this anymore,” even if they have children. It’s like spitting in the face of the baby Jesus.

The Family Foundation is advocating "mutual consent divorce" for couples with children, which would require a husband and wife to agree to divorce before a marriage can be legally terminated, except in certain instances, such as abuse or cruelty. The proposed legislation would not affect childless couples.

Hopefully this legislation will pass because the children need to be saved. Children who are raised without two parents in the household usually grow up to be rapists, or worse, criminals. Now, if a man beats his woman for being insubordinate she won’t just be able to up and leave because she is sad. He will have to agree with the decision also. And the children will have two parents. And Jesus will be happier.

"You can just walk away from someone right now. There is less security in the covenant of marriage than if you and I agree to open up a hamburger joint," Marshall said.

True, sadly, so very true. Please be the first to save American, Virginia

amen! preach on, brother!

i mean, just because you fuck someone else, beat your wife for burning dinner, and just generally live in a loveless marriage doesn't mean she has a right to just up and leave, right?! we need to think about the kids, people...

If divorce required mutual consent I'd never get married.

This law raises the costs of getting married, thus discouraging it. That's a funny way to protect marriage. Not only is the proposed law immoral and unethical, it's also counterproductive to the stated goals of the organization pushing it.

This leads me to believe that the Family Foundation hates families. They obviously hate gay families and single parent families. But since they wish to force families into a loveless parody of marriage it seems they hate all families. Laws like this aren't about protecting marriage or families; they are about forcing women into domestic positions where they get bossed around by men.

I do beleive the article says "except in certain instances, such as abuse or cruelty." So the assumption that a woman can not divorce her husband for abuse is absurd.

Of course I live in a state that gives the Judge the ability to deny a divorce and force the hapless couple into marriage counseling. Then the couple has to have the court appointed marriage counselor approve the possibility of a divorce. Then he can deny it for any other reason he see's fit.

George: I..I've given this a lot of thought. I'm sorry, but we, uh, we have to break up.

Maura: No.

George: ...What's that?

Maura: We're not breaking up.

George: ...We're not?

Maura: No.

It's true that he got that part wrong. Regardless, it's still a mind-numbingly stupid idea.

Perhaps the best way to reduce the rate of divorce, is to encourage people to have long periods of engagement before getting married. That way they have more time to find out prior to getting married that, shock, horror, their intended spouse is not right for them after all.

Proving that abuse has taken place can be a difficult thing. Hence, in practice, many people in abusive relationships would be unable to obtain a divorce.
