Christians Get Their Murder On

Christians have finally created an excellent video game, with loads of heathen killing and forced conversions, only to have liberals demand the game be pulled of shelves. Unaccepting hippie types want Wal-Mart to stop selling Left Behind: Eternal Forces because they say it sends the wrong message. The game is inspired by a series of Christian novels that are popular with teenagers and have sold over 60 million copies.

The novels are based on the Book of Revelation and take place after the Rapture. Jesus has already come and gone and all the nonbelievers are dealing with life under the Antichrist. And life ain’t so good.

The game is set in an apocalyptic New York City, where the secretary-general of the UN is the Antichrist and players can choose between the Antichrist and the Lord Jesus Christ. The only drawback is that if you do choose to fight with the Antichrist, you cannot win. If you choose Jesus, not only are you a winner but you will also be among the righteous, who are represented by gospel singers, missionaries and medics. If you fight with the Antichrist, you will battle alongside rock stars and people with Muslim-sounding names.

When asked about the Arab and Muslim-sounding names, Left Behind Games’ president Jeffrey Frichner said the game does not endorse prejudice. But "Muslims are not believers in Jesus Christ"—and thus can't be on Christ's side in the game.

The action sounds compelling. According to Frichner, players lose "spirit points" if they shoot nonbelievers instead of converting them. But they can also earn spirit points by praying, just like in life. The overall goal of the game, according to the makers, is to bring teenagers and parents together to talk about the Bible. Amen.

if not taken seriously and read as science fiction, they're somewhat decent albeit poorly written. i read a few of the books when i was spending some time with ultra-conservative relatives in idaho and needed something to read.

Eh, I tried reading one once. I'm not opposed to chrsitian and religious themes in my literature; if I was, I wouldn't be a big King Arthur fan after all, or like some of the works of Steinbeck. But....uuugggghhhh; the prose is wretched and sounds as if a Sophmore literature student wrote it...a HIGH SCHOOL sophomore.

Wasn't there already a christian video game? I played a demo of some game where I pointed a sword at roman soldiers and converted them with blasts of faith. It was terrible.
Anyone else remember this?

You can read one in a couple of hours, which speaks to their content and density.

I am not religeous myself, but Muslims hold Jesus in high regard.

It seems to me that the authors of the game have picked Arab sounding names, because they are popular bad guys at the moment on account of terrorism. That makes them an easy group to cast in a bad light. Therefore, the author of the game is using prejudice.

I also attempted to read the books to gain some understanding of what was taking place. The first book, and I assume subsequent books, are written by two gentlemen that were telling the story of two characters that were not related (that I assume come to meet each other) but were dealing with the rapture.

One author was alright, but not worth my time to read. The other was horrid.

No Muslims hold Jesus in high regard as a prophet but not as the son of God. So to the Christians Muslims are heathens and will be serving the devil in hell.

So yes to prejudice but this hate actually predates the current war on terror. Only those who believe Jesus to be the son of God are worthy in the eyes of the Christian. The rest of us are either dirt or waiting to be converted.

I will take up the position of: It's a *game* --you fucktards!!!! It's not showing anyone in a bad light because --it's fiction. Once again politicians are using this tissue-thin premise as an excuse to interfere with an individual's right to make a decision for themselves. They're not worried about taste (or lack thereof), they're simply taking this opportunity to reaffirm their totally fraudulent status as experts in determining what's safe for you and me.

As freelance game designer I will also add that these small market games generally fail. So, any uproar is only going to help the designers. Because while this game might ship a 100k units, I can almost guarantee you that the distro will have to buy back 3/4ths of them when it fails to sell in 6mos.

Don't worry Mthrsuperior --look for it soon in the bargain bin for $9.95 !

wink

So what are the odds that the "bad guy" names don't include Jewish names or Hindi name or Chinese names, just the Muslim sounding ones?
