Dalai Lama Slams Bush's War on Iraq

Using emotive terms like "not very positive", the Dalai Lama has roundly savaged the war in Iraq.

Having previously refused to comment on the situation, His Holiness plunged a rhetorical dagger into the heart of the Neo-Conservative war machine, saying:

"At the early stage I felt, and also I expressed, 'Too early to say, to judge.' But now, things not very positive"
...
"Now in Iraq — too many killings."

The Tibetan spiritual leader may have stopped short of branding the war "regrettable", but his fiery words are bound to upset the Bush regime and worry G.O.P. strategists.

With oil prices down, Bush's approval rating on the mend and the Democratic party being increasingly seen as weak on terrorism, Republicans were starting to regain some optimism.

However, given the Dalai Lama's prominence in the hearts and minds of the Conservative base, his comments are bound to be seen as a grievous setback in the lead up to the November midterm elections.

In a move clearly designed to embarrass the American president, the Lama also stepped in to offer his own moral leadership on the situation in the Middle East.

"Close contact creates clear understanding, then suspicion, fear may not find much room. Even some disagreement doesn't matter."

It is not known whether Bush will act on this guidance - hawkish elements of regime may cynically feel that warring Sunni and Shi'ite factions have close enough contact already.

According to a experts at Wikipedia, the Dalai Lama, real name Tenzin Gyatso, is seen by his followers as the 14th incarnation of a Tibetan holy man from donkey's years ago.

Having attacked the American president's execution of the war, he turned his ire towards the Rome. Responding to the Pope's recent insult to the world's Muslim population, the Lama fired this no-holds-barred polemic:

"Mischievous people often use religious faith for their own interests and create conflict,"
...
"We have to look at the real message of all these traditions."

Actually, he might have been attacking Islamic reaction to the Pope's words, or just speaking generally, but the message was clear - "fuck with religion and you're fucking with the Lama".

This one is It's just another badly written article with no supporting authority, and no coherent thread.

Not only that, it abused a respected religious figure's natural, non-political sentiments, for the ENTIRELY political ends of the author.

What's more, in his eagerness wave the Dalai Lama around to prove a point, the author didn't even have the grace and respect to re-phrase the (understandably) broken English spoken during the interview.

Shame on...er....erm...

Well shame on me, for pointing it out, I guess. Shame on me for attempting satire to an audience expecting identikit partisan drumbeating or sarcasm. Shame on me for lowering myself by explaining it.

i) If people think the news sucks they could either a) offer constructive criticism (i.e. a little more than "suck less next time"wink or b) write their own damn news.

ii) The Dalai Lama and his sentiments are hardly apolitical. Tibetan Buddhism's got politics smeared all over it.

ii) Tangenti:
From the
speech:

Terrorism is a sort of mutual suffering. They've also suffered. Therefore, lead, listen, talk, and try to find way to solve that which is causing their complaint. That's the humane way.

There's a little hippy in me that still rolls over like a puppy for that stuff.

Hey, big spender...

..But the now even the Dalai Lama doesn't approve of Bush! Call me presumptuous, but I'm pretty sure most new-Age American Buddhists weren't cheering for Bush anyway.

Also:
Disregard my last link. Apparently I have a problem reading dates.

Gas prices are still way above what ordinary Americans can comfortably afford, Bush's approval rating is in dead cat bounce and couldn't possibly have gotten worse, Democrats are trending upwards on their polling numbers on terrorism, and Republican party hacks are completely freaked out and the party is in disarray.

that's not what little green footballs says.

^^^We do need the Dalai Lama to maybe give a few less "Let's all hold hands and end our suffering" speeches and engage in some more ratfucking.

Tibet was unique in that it unilaterally disarmed several centuries ago (as opposed to being forcefully disarmed as in the case of other Asian countries under the British and Dutch). Disarmament? Pacifism? Obvious enemies of our president and all true followers of Jesus.

To paraphrase Spinal Tap, when asked the question of how much more black could the album cover be?

The answer is "None. None more martyr."

catchphrases are the new rebuttal. who needs intelligent debate when you can always cut and paste misappropriated quotes?
