American Airlines and Clinton Get Ready to Own ABC

The completely horseshit ABC movie "The Path to 9/11," may go down as one of the stupidest business decisions of all time. Not only did the lie-saturated piece of propaganda cost 40 million to make, but also the network did not even run commercials. On Sunday night the movie produced terrible ratings, tying a repeat CBS documentary with a rating of 8.2/12. This was close to half as many viewers as the New York vs. Indianapolis game, which earned NBC a 15.1/23 rating.

And now the lawyers are getting ready to carve up ABC for the blatant lying that occurred throughout the piece of shit excuse for a movie. American Airlines was the first to step up to the plate today. In the “film” it is suggested that American Airlines employees ignored a security risk alert for Mohammad Atta. But in truth, the airline was US Airways. Oops. Here is American Airlines response:

The Disney/ABC television program, 'The Path to 9/11,' which began airing last night, is inaccurate and irresponsible in its portrayal of the airport check-in events that occurred on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001.

A factual description of those events can be found in the official government edition of the 9/11 Commission Report and supporting documents.

This misrepresentation of facts dishonors the memory of innocent American Airlines employees and all those who lost their lives as a result of the tragic events of 9/11.

As well, an American Airlines PR man sent a letter to Americablog threatening legal action:

I think it is important for you to know that ABC had factual errors in its dramatization, and we are looking at possible legal actions as a result. According to the 9-11 Commission report, it was not American Airlines, nor was it even the right airport that was depicted. In reality, it was another airline, flying out of Maine. Please know this was a tragic incident in our company's history and we hope you will be sympathetic to our employees and our airline on this day especially. Again, we are outraged by this situation, and we alerted ABC about its gross error. It is very unfortunate.

Roger Frizzell
Vice President, Corporate Communications & Advertising
American Airlines

And last but not least, Bill Clinton is clearly preparing a defamation of character suit that should be quite easy to win.

Having now seen the first night of this fiction, it is clear that the edits made to the film did not address the factual errors that we brought to your attention. 'The Path to 9/11' flagrantly ignored the facts as reported by the 9/11 Commission and invented its own version of history. The result, in our judgment, is irreparable damage to the Commission's work. More importantly, it is a disservice to the American people.

That the film directly contradicts the findings of the 9/11 Commission is troubling. That it defames dedicated public officials is tragic. But the fact that it misleads millions of people about the most tragic and consequential event in recent history is disgraceful.

Nice call, ABC, you stupid assholes. Joseph Goebbels would have been proud. You will get everything you deserve.

So long as Lost keeps it's budget, I'll be totally fine with this.

Funny, my friend called me a few hours ago saying that miniseries was the best thing he'd ever seen (he's not too bright).

Ok,I'm not American so dont really understand whats so bad about ABC,but apart from getting the wrong airline and airport what else was incorrect? The other basic facts were correct weren't they?Did politics get in the way of catching OBL?Was the lack of communication between agencies a factor? Were the terrorists and their threat underestimated?Did the US government just fuck up?
If so whats the problem with the show?

There were other factors that a different thread brought up.

I guess the Dems could make good on their veiled thread take away ABC's license to broadcast. That would send out a big lesson to all media outlets that dared criticise Clinton and ensure that this sort of insurrection never happens again.

Saw the end of it and was horrified. Nothing but a two-hour propaganda piece showing why we "need" racial profiling and fewer rights.

The problem is that all of the outlining things you just stated are correct, but it seems like they took that outline and gave it to writers who made up facts and situations around those super broad generalizations.
This would not have been a problem if the claim wasn't made that the show "followed the findings of the 9/11 commission" when facts, situations, the findings of the 9/11 commission, its reports, and reality clearly were in contradiction to the ABC crocumentary.

That on top of the fact that they previously ran the movie by many of the people now currently thinking of suing the crap out of them, resulting in complaints as to the accuracy of the project way before it aired. Their solution was to edit one entire minute of the movie in which Sandy Berger hung up the phone and bitched about the CIA.
Then they used that minute as the promo for its airing in Australia. surreal
