ABC is the new Stalin

ABC has made a delightful “docudrama” about the World Trade Center attacks called “The Path to 9/11.” The movie was written by a right wing activist friend of Rush Limbaugh and shockingly contains several lies about the actions of the Clinton administration in the years preceding the attacks. “The Path to 9/11” is supposed to be based on the 9/11 Commission Report, but that is disputed by members of the commission. A member of the commission ripped apart the movie on Countdown.

The film puts all the blame for failing to prevent the attacks on Clinton, while totally overlooking anything the Bush administration failed to do – such as ignoring a CIA report that Al Qaeda planned to hijack planes in August, 2001. Preview copies of the film were not sent to any left wing bloggers but were sent to 900 right wing bloggers, radio hosts and other spinners of the truth.

ABC plans to air the show over two nights without commercials, even though it cost an estimated 40 million dollars. Some might consider that to be a shocking move for a business, unless of course there is a political agenda behind it. The network also plans on distributing the movie through iTunes and has been pushing it as an educational resource. Scholastic, Inc. had originally agreed to use the movie as a classroom companion guide but is now omitting the film because it “Did not meet our high standards for dealing with controversial issues.”

Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger and Madeline Albright are said to be very upset with the film and have demanded copies but have yet to receive them. Clinton and Albright have sent threatening letters to Disney. The entire Democratic leadership of the US Senate also sent a letter filled with veiled threats to Robert Iger, the CEO of Disney. ABC has so far not handled the situation well, clearly not understanding the new power of bloggers on the internet. The network may be in trouble if the Democrats take over the House or the Senate. Even more so if they take over both.

Right-wingers can scream and cry all they want but they only have to look at November 2003 when they had a movie on CBS about the Reagans pulled because it wasn’t “historically accurate.”

Ah, so to summarize...

* ABC makes a program that criticizes Democrats.

* A whole bunch of powerful Democrats threaten ABC

* ABC caves and makes changes to the program

When policians bully the media into censoring information, I know who looks more like Stalin.

Considering the fact that Disney blocked distribution of Fahrenheit 9/11 I am going to go ahead and agree with you and say they should give this film similar treatment by not distributing it to their affiliate stations.

If the media is going to present a "NEW BROADCAST" or "DOCUMENTARY" and present it as historical FACT, then they need to be held to the standards of responsible journalism when presenting it over PUBLIC airwaves. Get it yet? An opinion program or pay to see movie are completely different animals than the ABC special. The timing of the release during the Mid-Term elections coupled with the false and misleading characterization of the preceeding Democratic leadership is a political ploy designed to influence public opinion and perceptions against Democrats. (Ok, I know the anniversary of 9/11is coming up, but COME ON, does this mean that the Republicans get to capitalize on it every freeking election!?!) Shame on ABC for this type of B.S. It's no different than what the "Swift Boaters" did to John Kerry by slandering his character.

I'm perterbed about it being on TV (I mean I won't watch it, but millions of other sods probably will, that is unless Katie Couric shows a little leg...). What what really upsets me is that ABC paired with Scholastic Books to create a study guide and work book to accompany the program for presentation in classrooms nationwide. They wanted to engage in an Orwellian style reeducation and rewriting of history to be directly disseminated as truth for the younger generation. Brave New Fucking World... Fucking despots. puke

Making a "slight alteration" to a single scene after being called out for historical inaccuracy is certainly not a large enough move to be worthy of being called the result of "Stalinistic bullying."

What really bugs me about this is the fact that Scholastic was going to educate the nation's children with workbooks filled with biased historical information. Not that such a thing hasn't happened before, as i'm sure we can all find gross inaccuracies in the "history" we were taught in highschool, but it's really something to see such a scene played out before this generation's very own eyes, especially in this
so-called "information age" (though it seems that very few people are actually looking to find much information...).

Anyway, i know i'll be watching a DVD, reading a book (maybe the ACTUAL 9/11 Commission instead of something "based on" it), or otherwise entertaining myself that evening.

And when exactly did Fahrenheit 911play for free over the airwaves for all to see? Oh wait...no it didn't. A person actually had to get in their car, drive to the theater, stand in line, and pay $10 for a ticket in order to watch it.

That's a big difference.

Here's an example of the historical accuracy that Scholastic was going to grace our schoolkids with: in the movie, a CIA analyst complains that bin Laden stopped using his satellite phone and went back to couriers after the Washington Post reported that the satellite phone had been tapped. There's a slight problem here:

It's a good plot device but, for one thing, the paper in question was the conservative Washington Times. That paper's Aug. 21, 1998 edition reported on bin Laden's use of satellite phones and computers.

In addition, many observers strongly doubt that the newspaper blew the surveillance method. Bin Laden's use of a satellite phone, they say, had already been widely reported by August 1998.

On Dec. 22, 2005, Glenn Kessler reported in The Washington Post that "it appears to be an urban myth. The al Qaeda leader's communication to aides via satellite phone had already been reported in 1996 -- and the source of the information was another government, the Taliban, which ruled Afghanistan at the time.

"The second time a news organization reported on the satellite phone, the source was bin Laden himself."

It's possible that the inaccuracy will be corrected by the time the film airs on Sunday and Monday.

This is so wrong that it really seems to me that it can't be anything other than a bullshit lie to slam the "liberal media", or, perhaps, the product of a right-wing ideologue who hasn't bothered to gather any sort of information on this that doesn't contradict his already determined notion that it's all Clinton's fault.

If this were some dopey movie going to theatres or to DVD, you wouldn't hear the complaining about it. But this is going on a publicly licensed station, which is supposedly still working under the requirement to show programming in the national interest, and it was being pitched as an "educational tool." What the hell is going on here?

Looking back at History - the process to reach control and dictatorship over a population has been a very subtle; Hitler and Stalin did not do what they did over night. The fact is that ABC and the present USA administration work hand in hand just like the FOX network. Now this to me sounds extremely dangerous and the most direct threat to democracy, freedom and civil rights. This is against the core of our founding fathers goals and objectives when establishing this republic. The bigger problem lies in that the American public does not read; they do not know history and are not aware of international and global issues. You government is taking away your rights, controlling your future and you don't know or care because you are not aware. That is a fact. Thanks "FearTheReaper" for being on the front line. This is a revolution folks; wake up.

Wow, how totally misinformed, all the reports have shown that yes, there is blame infact on Clinton -but in a very even handed manner. A large chunk of the blame is also placed on Ms. Rice, and Mr.Bush, but of course we all focus on how some of the blame gets put on the left, who as some us know passed the buck to this president who in turn will pass the buck to the next.
again..this is why tuesdays election is important.

Sorry, but you are horribly wrong. Could not be more so. Odds are I do more research than you do. The story is not about Clinton not being culpable somehow, it is about the blatant lying in a docudrama. Feel free to look up what lie means in the dictionary, then read this:

Review.

For further homework you can look up what the Clinton administration told the Bush administration before they left office. It rymes with ball kaeda.

And feel free to look Bush's response to the CIA POB that was delivered to him in August 2001 regarding the HIJACKING of planes which was about to occur. And see his delightful quote, "Ok, you covered your ass>"

Now see how NONE of that is in the movie.

Don't tell me I am misinformed because I am the politic editor, which not only makes me a better person than you but also smarter.

Sir I wasnt attacking your character nor your intelligence, but if it makes you feel better to attack mine. feel free to do so. I was making a comment, which last time I checked was allowed here, and dont assume that I dont do my homework just because Im not buying the shit the left is trying to sell.
