Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has stated that the Senate will attempt to finish its must-pass bills by September 27. After that Senators will be free to campaign and raise sweet, sweet cash before the November elections.
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid crunched some numbers in his head and had this to say:
This new adjournment date means the Senate has only 8 more weeks in which it will be session. For months, this Do Nothing Republican Congress has wasted time on issues like the nuclear option, the marriage amendment, drilling in the Artic Wildlife Refuge, flag burning, bankruptcy, class action and the Estate tax.
As a result, here we are, with only a handful of weeks remaining, and the Senate hasnt done a thing to address the priorities of the American people.
Lets break that down for the working folk. Eight weeks equals 40 business days. Then they get Labor Day off, which means they are down to 39 days. We can lose Mondays and Fridays because they are not actually working days in the Republican Congress. (Dont want to over do it.) They take off the entire month of August. (Its very hot.) And we are left with a total of 23 legislative days of work for those poor bastards.
Did I mention they are off the entire month of August?
Considering how easy it has been to come to an agreement about immigration, Im sure that will get done. As well as laws to limit lobbyists. And the stem cell thing should be a breeze. Hopefully they get a pay raise this year. Nice work, Congress, you bloated, arrogant, corrupt fucks.
