Congress Working Their Asses Off

Tags: Frist, Senate, Reid

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has stated that the Senate will attempt to finish it’s “must-pass” bills by September 27. After that Senators will be free to campaign and raise sweet, sweet cash before the November elections.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid crunched some numbers in his head and had this to say:

This new adjournment date means the Senate has only 8 more weeks in which it will be session. For months, this “Do Nothing Republican Congress” has wasted time on issues like the nuclear option, the marriage amendment, drilling in the Artic Wildlife Refuge, flag burning, bankruptcy, class action and the Estate tax.

As a result, here we are, with only a handful of weeks remaining, and the Senate hasn’t done a thing to address the priorities of the American people.

Let’s break that down for the working folk. Eight weeks equals 40 business days. Then they get Labor Day off, which means they are down to 39 days. We can lose Mondays and Fridays because they are not actually working days in the Republican Congress. (Don’t want to over do it.) They take off the entire month of August. (It’s very hot.) And we are left with a total of 23 legislative days of work for those poor bastards.

Did I mention they are off the entire month of August?

Considering how easy it has been to come to an agreement about immigration, I’m sure that will get done. As well as laws to limit lobbyists. And the stem cell thing should be a breeze. Hopefully they get a pay raise this year. Nice work, Congress, you bloated, arrogant, corrupt fucks.

I say we burn down congress.. and set up a new government in Vegas.... I mean, if we're gonna worship the almighty dollar, we might as well do it somewhere that makes sense.

Harry Ried says the Republican Congress was wasting time debating "drilling in the Artic Wildlife Refuge?" This from the man who keeps bitching about our dependance on Suadi oil. I thought Ried and the Dems were all for getting us off the middle east oil, the Reps try to do just that(not a solution but it would help) and he calls it a waste of time. Ha, ha, ha, only from the Democrats.

Sounds to me that the wrong buildings where attacked during 9/11 and instead of killing thousands of hard working decent ppl they should have killed all the corrupt retarded, slimy, thieving bastards in the white house. I think it would have made for a much better USA and world then, as there might me some ppl with a clue step up to the plate.

Not every proposed solution is a good one. It isn't only a choice between drilling in ANWR and Relying on Saudi Oil.

dude, he knows that. he knows that the alaskan oil will only last us about a week. the important part is that a democrat wasted time. its called cherry picking, ie, the republicans may waste 80% of the time on gay marriage, flag burning, and a bunch of other non issues, but a democrat wasted 5% of the time, so theyre equal. if anything, the dems are worse.

Perhaps some of you should consider the ENVIRONMENTAL implications of drilling in ANWAR. For the tiny bit of oil that we *might* get (after a long time), there is a great risk of polluting the pristine terrain and wildlife there. That is why the Democrats filed their opposition.

As far as drilling for oil is concerned, we should really be focusing on alternative sources of energy--particularly the role of hydrogen as a possible substitute for gasoline.

For those of you who feel that the Democrats are worse than the Republicans, have you actually been reading the news during the Bush White House or have you been living in a cave in some remote land beyond modern convention? The Republicans are fucking up this country and the grand American populace knows it, so you better get used to the Democrats because they are the next party of power.

And don't even get me started about bankruptcy reform. That issue really pisses me off. Now some poor American who is devastated by catastrophic medical bills has to repay them. Declaring bankruptcy and voiding the debt is no longer an option. You can thank the heartless Republicans and the unscrupulous credit card lobby for that screw job. mad
