Scholarships to Fly Planes Into Buildings

The Saudi Arabian government is offering scholarships to Saudi men and women to study various majors related to civil aviation in the United States. Saudis have shown so much promise flying in their brief aeronautical careers that their government is encouraging more. The Ministry of Higher Education and the General Authority of Civil Aviation are offering the scholarships.

Forms are available online at www.mohe.gov.sa until July 12 for any terrorist to fill out and file. It is not recommended to use the word “martyr” anywhere on the form. And do not use the phrase “somewhat interested in landing.” Interviews will take place in August and final scholarship winners will be announced on Sept. 2. If all goes well, prospective students could be flying into buildings within two years. Good luck!

It should be a dead giveaway that they don't teach their students how to land.

It's quite a reckless title. Just because they are Muslim doesn't mean they are terrorists. I lived next door to a family of Muslims when I was in San Diego - they were very peaceful and very cool. Saudi Arabia has been a long time ally of the U.S. We have never been their enemy nor they ours.

I guess someone should post a terrorism news report any time a white guy wants to rent a Ryder truck (memories of Timmothy McVeigh) to add to the hysteria.

Educate yourselves. There are two main branches of the Muslim religion. Not every person within either branch is a terrorist.

The attacks on September 11, 2001 were not the acts of any nation or country.

Grow up: Racism and paranoia suck.

I thought this story's delivery was pure racist tripe, so read the linked article.

...and found this:

Applicants for the bachelor's program must have a minimum score of 85 percent in the science section and 90 percent in other sections, such as Qur'an memorizing, administrative and commercial sciences.

So they really ARE looking for pilots with at least some level of deep Islamic involvement. That's interesting to say the least. Why would a prospective pilot's Qur'an knowledge be MORE important than their science skills?

There are no overt references to religion besides the word "martyr". There are no references to race.

There are references to nationality which I think are fair in this case. Some stereotypes are made and some are earned.

Actually the entire post is a reference to nationality, race and religion. It is directed at a Saudi Arabian education plan. Saudi Arabia is made up 100% of Muslims. 90% of those are Arab - the other 10% is Afro-Asian.

Let's go over what ISN'T there: There are also no references to crashing into U.S. buildings. There are no references to any student flying a plane or learning to fly a plane at all.

It's actually been a fairly open program by Saudi Arabia. One which resulted after Saudi Arabia assembled the first ever Counter-Terrorism Internation Conference in Feb of 2005.

I just think it's shitty and reckless to make a fucked up claim against a Saudi education plan for further securities partnership. Remember, it was those "Muslims" who not only housed, fed, and supplied our troops during the Gulf War - but also paid the U.S. $15 billion in reimbursements to keep Iraq from invading Kuwait. They have worked very closely with the U.S. on security measures and this scholarship/education plan is just one of many in place.

This sort of headline is the lowest common denominator of "journalism". I understand that the SG newswire does not pretend to be impartial, fair, sane, etc.. But it's stupid to perpetuate mindless bigotry.

Since you probably don't read any issues on world politics, I've taken the liberty of providing you with a fact sheet on Saudi Arabia. Please scroll down to the section where it outlines the citizens and their religion. MUSLIM: 100%.
Something for you to read.

100% of the terrorists were members of Al Qaeda. 100% of original KKK members were U.S. citizens. Should you also assume that every U.S. citizen is racist? Stop living in ignorance. Just because a particular group either resides, originates from, or utilizes a country, doesn't mean they hold ties or alliance to any government. Bin Laden was exiled from where? Oh yeah, Saudi Arabia. So, perhaps you should claim all Saudis are terrorists based on his origins. Brilliant logic. Next, we can call anyone of German descent, "Nazis."
