Impeach the Motherfucker Already!

Dan Savage, writer of the weekly sex column Savage Love, has some experience with coining terms. He and his loyal readers are responsible for the widespread use of the terms "pegging" (the act of a woman fucking her man with a strap-on), "santorum" (as he puts it, "the frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex," named after anti-gay senator Rick Santorum), and the acronym "DTMFA" ("dump the motherfucker, already" -- advice frequently given in his column).

Dan's got a new term he's trying to get people using: "ITMFA," which is short for "Impeach the motherfucker, already!"

I approached the idea cautiously. While Savage Love readers have successfully popularized two terms— pegging and santorum—I was apprehensive about ITMFA. Did the world need another anti-Bush slogan? Did we need another anti-Bush website? Instead of launching the campaign, I punted, asking my readers what they thought.

Well, they thought we should go for it—and my readers are usually right about this stuff.

The website at impeachthemotherfuckeralready.com is still in its early stages, but Savage is asking supporters to make their own "ITMFA" buttons and tshirts and send in pictures to be displayed. He also plans to link to any interesting news or websites that discuss impeaching President Bush.

I wish him luck in getting the phrase -- and the sentiment behind it -- into the realm of public discourse.

Because their political views are ridiculous. That would seem obvious but I guess not.

ri·dic·u·lous adj.

Lemme know when he regains an interest in humans.

Why ridicule and demean someone based upon their political views? If you think someone is a moron or that they're corrupt, then fine, but to do so because you don't agree with what they say is a tad bit juvenile.

it's not disagreement with the man's political views, it's that the man is batshit wacko.

Where have you been living for the past 230 years?

Our country was founded on making fun of people for having different political views. surreal

I always liked Dan Savage's column...I remember when CityBeat (the local music/political magazine in Cincinnati) was basically forced to remove the "Savage Love" columns due to pressure from local politicians and "morality groups" because of their content...it made me more than happy to leave Cincinnati because of the blatent censorship going on there.

That said, go Dan!
Oh and impeach Bush!

Columbus Alive got bought and his column went away. Sometimes I goddamn hate Ohio.

It still appears in Cleveland Scene.

This is the kind of shit that makes moderates flee to the Republican party. Of course, I also think Michael Moore and Howard Dean won the election for Bush.

Yes, because a political party controlled by religious fundamentalists and extremists is practically a beacon for moderates whatever

Meanwhile, here in the real world, moderates who are dissatisfied with either of the two main parties either cease being politically active or try to form a new political party that actually represents their interests.

But hey, if your false dichotomy makes you feel all warm and toasty at night, go ahead and keep it. It's no skin off my back.

I never said the Republican party was a beacon for moderates. What I did say is that throwing around vulgarity and self-righteousness tends to alienate the type of swing voters who only pay attention to politics at election time. Like it or not, we're going to need them come November.

Also, people in the real world form new political parties? Only if the real world consists of undergrads at East Coast liberal arts colleges.

Funny, just a couple of years ago, you would have loved Dan Savage.

Here, read this. This was a column he wrote in 2002: Say "YES" to War on Iraq, Liberals Against Liberation.

People on your side loved Savage because here he was, an openly gay sex columnist, promoting the liberation argument for the Iraq War.

But I guess now he's just another crazed Bush-hating liberal, eh? It couldn't have anything to do with the deeply criminal incompetence of the Bush administration. He just "hates Bush"™!

Last time I checked, swing voters didn't automatically equal moderates, they were just people who couldn't make up their minds. If that's who you meant, you should have said so clearly in the first place. Don't be clumsy with your language.

As for political parties, yeah, people do form new ones, though none of them have achieved large-scale mainstream success in the US, for various reasons. I don't see how their lack of success affects my point that they do exist, and that people are free to form new ones at any time.

Also, last I checked, the East Coast actually does exist in the real world, as do liberals and colleges. So I guess you were wrong on that count. Pity, that.

"Pegging" is in widespread use? Where? I thing some one is using the term "widespread" a little loosely. That's it from the word police.

Women fucking men in the ass with a strap-on isn't all that widespread either, though.

Check out the Anal Sex group lately?

I am certain those articles of impeachment are coming any day now. Just like the draft.

The top thread in the Anal Sex group right now is about pegging, and people are, in fact, calling it pegging. So yes, people use the word pegging all the time, when said term is situation-appropriate.

does Bush get an automatic impeachment if his approval rating reaches 0? Which isn't too far away...
