Bush: Still a Goddamned Liar

You know, I was recently accused of being one of those liberals who can't find anything good to say about the Bush Administration and who is always harping on the negative events of Bush's presidency. That may be true, but when I read stories like this, I feel perfectly justified.

Bush on Good Morning America, Thursday, September 1st, three days after Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans:

"I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees. They did anticipate a serious storm. But these levees got breached. And as a result, much of New Orleans is flooded. And now we are having to deal with it and will."

Bullshit, Georgie, bullshit.

The day before Katrina made landfall, the Bush Administration was briefed by the bumbling Michael Brown, then-head of FEMA, that Katrina may very well be "the big one" and that the levees were set to break. There is video evidence of this.

The Associated Press obtained the confidential government video and made it public Wednesday, offering Americans their own inside glimpse into the government's fateful final Katrina preparations after months of fingerpointing and political recriminations.

"My gut tells me ... this is a bad one and a big one," then-federal disaster chief Michael Brown told the final government-wide briefing the day before Katrina struck the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29.

The president didn't ask a single question during the briefing but assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: "We are fully prepared."

A top hurricane expert voiced "grave concerns" about the levees and Brown, then the Federal Emergency Management Agency chief, told the president and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that he feared there weren't enough disaster teams to help evacuees at the Superdome.

"I'm concerned about ... their ability to respond to a catastrophe within a catastrophe," Brown told his bosses the afternoon before Katrina made landfall.

Yeah, it would have been great if, as the head of FEMA, "Heckuva Job" Brownie had made these realizations sometime during his tenure and tried to fix problems before they occured.

Why does Bush lie so goddamned much? Why can't this administration ever, ever admit when they fucked up and then do their damndest to fix things?

idk, his dad was actually a pretty damn good foreign relations president. The people of the world liked him, (sans Iraq) but that might have had something to do with his inability to handle domestic affairs... Does anyone else remember the Anywhere Else But Here tour of 1990-91? He was all over the damn world, cutting ribbons here, puking on people there... I mean if the guy can puke on someone and THEN get him to loosen trade restrictions... now thats a smooth talker. No, jr just waves his litle cowboy at them while Dick Palpatin hides in his secret (ask google maps how secret) lair.

What do you expect from a guy who realized he wanted to be President of the United States in the parking lot of a Texas Holiday Inn after a prayer meeting?

Really, the man can't be blamed for the failures of his administration. Since God is apparently telling him to do these things (as he has said in the past), the responsibility really falls on Jehovah's shoulders. whatever

When the bush administration admits that it made "mistakes", it shows weakness. So Bush just denies everything even in the face of evidence like the one in this article! skull

Well, you were crazy. It wasn't subtext.

I never attribute to malevolence what can effectively explained by incompetence. Humans are much better at being stupid than evil (even, indeed especially, smart humans - the latter just do stupid things very intelligently). Idiocy is essentially a self-perpetuating condition. A person who makes a mistake and blames exterior factors for the consequences of that mistake is obviously not going to be learning anything from their errors. I think the present regime is a stunningly effective example of that dynamic. The mendacity is simply the method by which these incompetents evade responsibility and avoid challenging their own preconceptions. They're lying first and foremost to themselves, and only secondarily to the American people - who it must be said actively assist them in the act of deception because who, other than some Godless kneejerk AmeriKKKa-bashing traitorous liberal moonbat, would really want to believe that things are as bad they are?

Oops. I just said "as they are." I guess I've outed myself as a Godless kneejerk AmeriKKKa-bashing traitorous liberal moonbat. Crap. Regardless, I still think it's slander to compare Bush with Palpatine - I could get behind Palpatine. I mean, the Dark Side is cool, you get strangle people with your mind and shoot lightning out of your fingers. Bush is not so cool. He's just a totally conventional smirking frat-rat who happened to inherit a superpower from his daddy. That's just dumb.

For some reason I am not surprised... just as I am not surprised Bush is destroying the United States, brick by brick by brick...

The Bush Administration is not able to manage a crisis. One can wonder if they can manage anything at all!
But I remember this saying: "If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem."

I believe Bush should be held responsible for the death of those innocents since he knew and didn't do anything!

Every week the Lib propaganda centrifuge spins more torturously tenuous nothings into a new SCAAAANDALLLS about Bush.

To what end are these risable efforts aimed? Bush can't stand for a third term, so it all seems rather silly - but I guess that's obsessive, compulsive disorder for you.

If it wasn't for the silly CBS "let's do a poll of mostly Dems and pissed off indies" approval rating non-story, and the "Bush lets an Arab company buy the port franchise off the Brits" non-story, this video would be one of the most vacuous attempts at a slur since Kanye West peed his gold lame thong.

This video, shows someone warning Bush that the storm was gonna be a big one (wow - even I knew that a day beforehand!).

It also showed Chertoff saying that he was concerned about the levees.

Most heinously, is shows (shock, horror, spin, spin, spin) that eeeeevil racist Bush saying "I want to assure the folks at the state level that we are fully prepared to not only help you during the storm but . . . after the storm.”

er...

um......

and that's it.

That's what this big fucking deal has been spun out of.

It's all very well blaming Bush for action that was not taken in response to one person's "concern", but this was ONE DAY BEFORE the fucking hurricaine hit!!!!

What was he supposed to do? Run to a phone box, change into superhero suit, fly down to New Orleans and rebuild the levees on the off chance?

A bit late in the day.

Surely if blame is being attributed, then it would be better to ask why the levees were in that state in the first place!!!!

...but I guess the main stream media knows that might involve a tinsy bit of criticism of the Clinton administration who....erm...cut a massive multi-million dollar flood control project.

Who nu?

Perhaps Bush was to blame for not taking rapid enough action AFTER that hurricaine....but wait....it now appears that the DEMOCRAT Governer of Louisiana assured Bush that the Levees were holding out!

Maybe Bush was to blame for believing a Dem. Fair enough if you ask me...

Predictably, ABC do their utmost defend Blanco (even the Dem Stream Media have to employ damage control measures sometimes...)

New Video Shows Blanco Saying Levees Safe

In the hectic, confused hours after Hurricane Katrina lashed the Gulf Coast, Louisiana's governor hesitantly but mistakenly assured the Bush administration that New Orleans' protective levees were intact, according to a new video obtained by The Associated Press showing briefings that day with federal officials.

"We keep getting reports in some places that maybe water is coming over the levees," Gov. Kathleen Blanco said shortly after noon on Aug. 29, according to the video that was obtained Thursday night. "We heard a report unconfirmed, I think, we have not breached the levee. I think we have not breached the levee at this time."

Just to remind you... Katrina was category 5 while a week away from the gulf coasts... He should have known better!
The levees system was designed to sustain a category 2. By level 3 it would have been nasty. Category 4 just dramatized the situation. But still, he should have known better!!

Spending a few hundreds million in prevention is always better than spending billions in reconstruction!

Dude. The simple fact of the matter is he said, more or less, no one could have predicted it. Out pops video with Bush listening to someone tell him that it was a matter of extreme concern that the levees could burst.

So there are three explanations I can think of:

a) he consciously lied
b) he's a fucking moron and didn't pay attention
c) he's a fucking moron and forgot

Take your pick. Any of the above options are fucking unacceptable. period.

Rage at the rain all you like about the liberal conspiracy to destroy Bush's credibility. His credibility is nonexistant nonetheless. His approval rating is in the low 30s. A majority of TROOPS IN FUCKING IRAQ, 2 to 1, think that we should leave and that we are fucked.

Spin away, But don't let's pretend that it's all not complete bullshit.

Don't be silly. Don't you understand that the fact that Bush slashed the levee budget by 75% in his first year in office is clearly Clinton's fault? Don't you also understand that when Bush claims that no one could have predicted that the levees would fail - when EVERYONE who had a clue was screaming that the levies could and were failing - is also just pure liberal spin? I mean, if the wing-nut blog sites that cut and paste from other wing-nut blog sites say it, then it can't be obfuscation in an attempt to distract the sentient world that 2/3 of Americans strongly disapprove of virtually every Bush policy. It is understandable, given the pending civil war in Iraq - with no end in sight, U.S. diplomats being blown up in Pakistan, GOP legislators running in droves to distance themselves from the president, etc. etc. All of this is clear liberal bias. Duh.
