Ass: It's What's for Dinner.

The Organic Consumers Association is urging people to ask the USDA to exclude cow anus and rectum from the human food supply. The USDA is considering removing small intestines as part of their new mad cow regulations. Europe, on the other hand, excludes the entire intestine, from the small intestine all the way to the anus.

The USDA is accepting public comment until April 12th 2004. So if you feel strongly about not eating cow anus without your prior knowledge, now you know what to do.

I'm not sure how I feel about post- mortem bovine anal lingual action.

obviously I'd rather not, but if I have up to this point....*shrug*

I don't buy any undifferentiated beef products (ground beef and the like) so I've probably managed to avoid this for the most part...but what I wonder about is the resturaunt and fast food industry. I can see the advert now

"New Wendy's Hamburgers! with 80% less Cow Anus!"

moo?

At the risk of sounding a bit strange, none of the gross-out vegetarian propaganda really fazes (sp?) me.
"There's anus in that hot dog, you know."
"That milk is full of cow pus."
"Eggs are essentially chicken periods, sugar."

Maybe it's the good old American "beef" is the world for "muscle of a cow" and "pork" is the word for "muscle of a pig" sort of blindness combined with the also terribly American idea that antibiotics will cure any woe.

It's when you get into the environmental ramifications of the industry of it all that brings out the colossal "What the FUCK?!"

But, then again, I have been involved in butter-eating contests, so perhaps I am not the most reliable gauge of what is and is not disgusting.

If I've eaten cow anus, it's apparently not that bad.

Brussel sprouts are disgusting, butter is not. No amount of butter can make brussel sprouts less disgusting. However, butter can add a nice touch to a well-cooked porterhouse steak.

Oscar Mayer's can put whatever they want in the hotdogs, I eat them because they taste good with mustard. Cow anus doesn't scare me, asparagus scares me.

for whatever it's worth, i didn't post this to shock any of the non-vegetarians. i did, however, think it would be handy to have a running list of who on the site would eat cow anus.

you're just not cooking them the right way!

or so they tell you. why they force feed brussel sprouts to children, i will never understand. i personally am a fan of the midget cabbage, but i recognize why others might prefer to fling them across the room.

The list of things I will NOT eat is directly proportional to the length of time I had to sit at the dinner table wishing them away, while my mother insisted they were good for me.

I had a vegan girlfriend once......ONCE! She tried to slip some beets into my burger, which I then discovered was actually some deep undercover tofu trying to masquerade as beef. Our 'relationship' didn't last the afternoon.

I'll make you a deal....you fix the photo set bug in my group, and I will change my personal avatar to one showing me, eating a Brussel sprout, in your honor.

If you're already fine with ripping out the musles from a carcas and eating them, I'm not really sure it matters all that much *which* muscles they are. If the concept doesn't bother you to begin with, the fact that one particular set came from a cow anus probably won't tip the scales.

Oh, and you can mark me down as a "yes" S5.

I'm mostly a steak person so ground beef doesn't often come into play but I've eaten enough ground beef at this point to not really care that much. Mmmm cow anus.
I also love brussel sprouts.
In all fairness, I'll eat almost anything, I just have my preferences.

Flux: Butter good, try lard next time. That pasty, chalky texture really makes for a challenge! I don't remember why but when my mom used to bake I was all over that bucket of lard. Kids do strange things.

Edited for spelling.
