Linkin Park to Warner Music: I'M ABOUT TO BREAK!

Never underestimate the savvy business skills of a man named Chester Bennington. He and the rest of the Linkin Park posse are demanding a bigger chunk of royalties as well as stock options, and the future of the next Linkin Park album lays dramatically in the balance.

Linkin Park, the best-selling American rap metal band, is demanding to be released from its contract with Warner Music, complaining that it will not see a penny from the company's planned stock market flotation.

In a statement from the band's management, Linkin Park claimed it has been responsible for 10% of Warner Music's sales during the past five years.

Its albums, including Hybrid Theory and Meteora, have together sold more than 35 million copies worldwide. The band has threatened to delay its next album, which is due to be released in 2006.

"The new owners of Warner Music Group will be reaping a windfall of $1.4bn [£740m] from their $2.6bn purchase a mere 18 months ago if their planned initial public offering moves forward," the statement read. "Linkin Park, their biggest act, will get nothing."

The Grammy award-winning band also said it had become "increasingly concerned" that Warner Music's "diminished resources will leave it unable to compete in today's global music marketplace". It added: "We feel a responsibility to get great music to our fans. Unfortunately, we believe that we can't accomplish that effectively with the current Warner Music."

Clearly Warner Music had better get on the ball with this, as the consequenses of Linkin Park not being effectively able to get out great music could potentially be disastrous.

(Or par for the course, depending on who you ask.)

YOUR IN A BAND TO MAKE MUSIC NOT MONEY. I am sick of this shit. Music should always be the first priority and then maybe if your good enough and dollar will be shelled your way. FUCK LINKIN PARK. I was a hardcore fan but after that J-Z shit and now this, they can go suck a cock. Get the Music to our fans. B FUCKING S!

Yeah right.
Just music?..Elvis probably had the same mentality as you.
Be mad all you want, they couldn't care less what anyone else thinks.
Remember Woodstock '98?..ah yes, it's all about the music.

So many people voicing their hate for Linkin Park, whiggers, and whiny nu metal, even though that has little to do with the original topic. This is almost as bad as reading those god-awful Roadrunner Records message boards.

oh..what pray tell is a whigger?

How does one "act black"? Is that like, the opposite of Wayne Brady, who people said wasn't black enough after he got his own show?

riiiight
there are millions of other bands out there "getting great music to their fans" who arent making millions of dollars doing it
making millions of dollars isnt required to make music
thats fine if what they want is to make tons more money than theyre already making, but they cant act like all they want it to make music"

This thread makes me laugh. While I am not a fan there are a couple things I admire about this band. One is the production on there albums, I not sure how much they had to do with it but there albums are exxxtttreeemmmly well produced. Two would be their ability to create the hype that starts threads like this. You don't have to be a fan and everyone is entitled to an opinion but being a music Nazi is just not cool wink, don't like, don't buy it, don't support it, get on with life.

You're having a laugh!?
Linken Park production is one of the worst I've ever heard - it just amounts to compressing the hell out of everything, so none of the instruments sound real anymore!
Interesting that the Albini article was mentioned cause
1) if you want to hear good production that captures the way a band actually sounds when they play then you should check out some records he's recorded
2) anyone who's a real band and thought at all about what they're doing ie. researched a little about what signing to a major might mean is likely to have read that, and even if they havn't its a well known fact that major labels screw over bands (be it over money, artistic issues whatever)

Someone mentioned they've sold x million records
I expect Celine Dion has too - doesn't necessarily mean her music is good does it?
Music at the end of the day is art, look at the art most people have hung in their house and its bland 3rd rate watercolour landscapes or some such, not prints of Jackson Pollock
And music being art then the music should come ahead of profit. To the person that said thats the argument of the music pirate, I say as a musician myself - thats total BS!

At the end of the day, I'm behind anyone who fights the major labels on behalf of the artists and if this is what Linken Park are doing then I support them, I'm just not sure it is - I feel they're only fighting for themselves (and only financially at that!)

Whatever, guys. When you're an artist, you grab what you can when it comes by. Careers in the arts aren't the easiest to live off of, and when you score, you make damn sure you're getting all you can. Cause five years later, you're back to square one and you better have planned ahead.

Is Allison Janney in the wrong for doing radio spots for AIA? Hell no. You take jobs when they're offered to you. You know what keeps you under a roof and eating when you're a working actor? It sure as hell ain't Jim Jarmusch movies or Shakespeare in the Park. It's Benadryl commercials and instructional videos. And when you get that big break, you milk that motherfucker for all it's worth.
