Everclear Singer Goes Broke!

According to Portland newspaper The Oregonian, Art Alexakis singer of the band Everclear, owes $2.75 million in back taxes from 1999 - 2002, piled up $120,000 in credit card debt, and owes $230,000 to the Oregon Department of Revenue.

Let's take a moment to look at Everclear's record sales shale we?

So Much For The Afterglow, their biggest album from 1997 sold 2.3 million units. The predecessor from 1995 Sparkle and Fade sold 1.2 million. Not too shabby.

Then things started to go downhill ...

Most of the audience hung with them for the next album, Songs from an American Movie Vol. 1 sold a respectable 1.1 million but the Vol. 2 companion album released later in the year sold about a quarter of that with 292,000 in sales. Keeping with the trend, Best of Everclear sold 39,000 units.

Not to mention he divorced last year for the third time, so lets not forget about alimony payments, child support, etc ...

So yeah, don't expect to see Mr. Alexakis on Cribs anytime soon.

Anyone who can accumulate nearly $3 million in back taxes in just three years is someone who made far too much money to entitle them to the tiniest scrap of my sympathy.

Today's word of the day is schadenfreude.

So what? I'm broke, and I don't even have the memory of three or four good years of money and groupies to look back on.

It takes a lot of motivation to blow at least $1mil/year on coke, h, and strippers. At least he's set goals for himself.

Supports my theory that Democrats don't know how to manage money:

In an interview with The Oregonian last August, Alexakis repeatedly said that the past year had been difficult, and that stress had contributed to his losing 40 pounds. An outspoken supporter of Democratic candidates and causes, he said that he wasn't able to make political campaign contributions as large as he had in the past.

Hey, atleast he lost 40 pounds. It won't make him rich, but he'll live longer!

What these dumb ass "rock stars" should be doing is gettting thier asses to money managers the second they score a recording contract. If they do ok, they can still manage the money properly and live a confortable lifestyle the rest of their lives.
Oh ya, I highly recommend this dumb ass never gets married again.

There was some movie I saw a while back where the rock star is trying so hard to think of angsty angry lyrics while he's sitting in his deck chair by his brand new pool at his mansion, and he can't do it.

I guess what I'm saying is that Art probably won't be having that problem any more.

If I had to choose only one band from high school/college that I was allowed to hate, it would be Everclear.

Just saying.

Let's see... who does this story remind me of? What other famous musician had a lot going for them and somehow ended up broke... I can't quite recall his name... could it have been...
