Gorillaz 'Search For A Star'

In what may be the coolest idea since sliced bread, The Gorillaz have started a online competition to find the next star.

We are looking to shine a light on brand new talents, and are asking people from all creative fields to send in submissions. Entries could be anything from animations, musical, sickly off-cuts, brief sketches, film scenes, caught-on-cameras clips, out-takes, voice-overs, bits of unused footage, whether humorous, dark, edgy, juvenile, insightful or thought provoking.

The competition starts on the 15th of December, and the closing date is 23 weeks after the 15th.

Holy shit....it's weird, because I just saw the "Clint Eastwood" video for the first time in two years about twenty minutes ago.

Great band, lame idea.

Didn't Limp Bizkit try something like this and fail miserably?

Hmmm...a search for the next star...a "Star Search" if you will.

Yes, this is truly a uniquely fresh approach to discovering talent.

I wouldn't say they exactly failed -- I mean if you looked at the bigger picture they were trying to rip off the people who auditioned for them's guitar riffs so they can put together a record.

I'm sure they stole oodles of stuff from the people who auditioned for them.

Somehow, I don't think anyone who would voluntarily audition to be in Tha Bizkit would have that much to be stolen.

You're just trying to get Nintendo to threaten to sue again so you can get a free system and game, aren't you?

Very interesting. Thanks for the info. I happen to have worked with them on their first incarnation. This may just mean we'll be getting a call in the near future to do so again. Nice bunch of folks behind the project...

It's a good group, but it always sounded like a side project to me. Oh, wait.
