Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Diagnosed With Lymphoma

Just two months after announcing Black Sabbath's reformation, guitarist Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphocytes. According to the band's official statement, "Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan--the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery." If you would like to send a get well message to Tony, please send one to getwelltony@black-sabbath.com

The four original members of Black Sabbath - OZZY OSBOURNE (vocals), TONY IOMMI (guitar), GEEZER BUTLER (bass) and BILL WARD (drums) - are currently working on their first record in 33 years together with producer Rick Rubin and will record in the UK rather than LA in the light of Tony's recovery.

2012 tour dates remain as follows:

May 18 - Moscow, Russia (Olimpiski)
May 20 - St. Petersburg, Russia (New Arena)
May 23 - Helsinki, Finland (Hartwall Arena)
May 25 - Stockholm, Sweden (Stadium)
May 29 - Bergen, Norway (Bergen Calling Festival)
May 31 - Oslo, Norway (Spektrum)
Jun 2 - Malmo, Sweden (Malmo Stadium)
Jun 4 - Dortmund, Germany (Westfalenhalle)
Jun 10 - Donnington, UK (Download Festival)
Jun 12 - Rotterdam, Holland (Ahoy)
Jun 15 - Bilbao, Spain (Azkena Rock Festival)

Damn... Where are all the comments... With out black sabbath there would be no metal, hardcore, emo, etc... Are all of the hard core kids asleep in the world or just so far removed from the past that contemporary lack of attention span rules all... Anyway... I do wish the best for Iommi... As it may be, my fathers first show was Black Sabbath in 69' or 70' ... Mine, Ozz Fest 97' with Sabbath(Ward was not on drums)... Well, good luck to these very respected people on their next venture... bottoms up...

I saw it all over the Birmingham mail earlier this week.

I know this might sound a little over-reactionary but... I hate the thought of this. And with what happened to Dio just a couple of years ago, it kinda makes it even more unsettling. I can't even begin to contemplate just how I'd feel if any of the four original members of Black Sabbath were no longer with us. I simply dread to think.

As far as holding our favourite artists/musicians in high esteem, Tony Iommi is right at the very top of my tree. He's not only a master at his craft and a man of absolute determination, he's also part-responsible for pretty much my favourite thing in the entire world: Black Sabbath. Everything would have been different for me if it hadn't have been for those four guys and I mean that with every bit of my sincerity too.

Here's to a speedy and full recovery.

Get well soon, our Tone.

The news of Tony's lymphoma is unfortunate. Bill Ward's qualms may be something similar to the contractual problems they were having with Dio in the early '90s. I know it's a long shot even if he does do the tour, but I was really hoping to see Bill do "It's Alright" live.

All the best in your recovery, Tony.smile
